Do you recommend it and why? I watched Happiest Baby on the Block and love the 5 S's. Does HSHHC address more of a schedule? My DD sleeps 8-10 hours at night but isn't going down until 11pm-1am and I'd prefer an earlier bedtime but can't seem to make it work.
Re: Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child
I haven't heard of this one. Can you tell me a little about it?
HSHHC is great for explaining the why's for good sleep and recommendations for naps and healthy sleep...but as PP said, not so great at step by step on how to go about setting these good routines. Its like us FTM need a coach sitting with us telling us how to do everything! lol Its a great book for its "substance".
I'd love to hear about baby whisperer too...lots of people said it was great. However...I've got Baby 411 AND another Baby Wise and I'm about booked out. I'm going to just do a hybrid lol! and it is working so far. LO sleeps 11ish hours almost every night. Its the naps I need help with
I didn't care for that book. It made me feel like an awful mother for doing what I had to do at the time to get my baby to sleep and creating bad habits. He was super fussy for about 2-2.5 months. I also don't believe in extinction, so not the right book for us. There is a lot of good science in that book, but not good methods, IMO.
If I do any form of CIO, it will be with intervals of soothing, a la Ferber or West.

I thought it was really interesting on the science of sleep and the need for sufficient sleep, but he really pushes CIO (Extinction not periodic checking). He says to use any method you feel comfortable with to get your baby to sleep but then criticizes every method but extinction.
