April 2012 Moms

Can we just get this out of the way now?

There are going to be lots of choices we make about our child(ren) that someone else here may not make for their child(ren).  That doesn't mean that anyone's choices are better or worse, they're just different.  And, I think it's pretty safe to say that 99.9% of the parents here are good parents that care about their kids, or else they wouldn't bother to come to a place like this to talk to other parents about parenting choices.

I know it's hard to know this now when we're talking about babies no bigger than the size of a plum, but they really do turn out ok as long as their loved and have their basic needs met (which won't be hard for most of us to do).  So, be comfortable in your choices now and later and let's respect each others differences.

  • Amen, sister.  I know we all love the little ones growing in us.

But when we get attacked for how we raise them, it's the mama bear inside of us that comes out.

I truly think all of us have good intentions :)

  • Sad to report that it only gets worse.....BFing vs. formula, CIO, co-sleeping, which bottles you use, extended rear facing, using bumpers, the old lady on the street who told me I was suffocating DS by using a rain shield on his stroller, when to start pre-school, when.if to use a babysitter, SAHM vs. working moms, juice wars, organic food.....it is so exhausting just to keep up on the things you can/are judged on as a parent.

     Agreed.

  • I feel like I missed an eventful day on the board. Just skimmed some stuff. Very well said OP. I make personal choices for me and I don't think I'm better for it. Well druggies and constant alcohol abusers and smokers during pregnancy....sorry I do think im better than you. But someone who has occasional wine, I wouldn't say anything to. I have occasional caffeine. But everyone's choice is there own. Debates here can ne fun sometimes but trying to convince people to do it your way is not going to accomplish anything. Puppies and rainbows for everyone!!

  • That's all fine and dandy but it's much more entertaining to argue.

Funny how you agree, yet this post was made because you were the one judging and attacking the people who might have a glass of wine during their pregnancies

Can you give an example? I am not sure how exactly to use this, should I ever need to pull it out. :)

I'm all for a good, respectful debate on different choices or even when someone who wouldn't make the same choice is interested in learning about why you made a different choice w/o judging.   Those posts are great!  I do thoroughly enjoy the PIPs in controversial posts, though.

  • Agree'd!  I'm SO tired of the "I know more than you do because....." thought process. NO ONE really "knows" more than anyone when it comes to parenting because everyone's family dynamic is diff.
