Gift to/from Siblings

For those of you who have other children and are getting gifts for them after delivery (probably from the new baby), what are you getting them?

Are you getting a gift from the sibling to the new baby?

Re: Gift to/from Siblings

  • We got DD a big sister shirt, doll and diaper bag so she can be just like me and take care of her "baby".  The gifts are from me and DH, not the baby.  DD isn't getting the baby any specific gift, but she's been involved in most of the shopping and has picked out a bunch of the things we got for the baby.

  • I haven't purchased anything yet but I'll probably get my DD something small from DH and I.  I also plan on buying the squirt bath toys and individually wrapping them so when people come over to meet the baby they can give my DD a gift without actually having to buy anything for her.  We're due the beginning of December so Christmas will only be a few weeks away.

  • I don't have other kids, but I love the big sister/brother books from www.iseeme.com.  I always see them when I order people the "My Very Own Name" book as a baby present and it just seems like such a cute idea.

  • This is our first LO, but I remember my mother giving us small gifts when my siblings were born years ago.  I don't think she pretended that they were from the new baby; she just gave them to us from her and my dad as a present for being new big sisters and brothers, and so that we didn't feel left out when people came to visit with gifts for the baby.  In fact, I learned later that she kept a small stash of little things like a dollar store coloring book and crayons, or a sticker book, to give us over the first few weeks incase people did come visit with gifts for the baby and not us, so that we never felt excluded.  It taught me to always bring "big brother" or "big sister"presents when I go see a friend's new baby.
  • When DS was born, we got DD a set of legos from the new baby. She loved them and they were a good way to distract her while we were trying to take care of her new brother. Not that I didn't want her help, but I'd rather have her playing quietly on her own while DS was spending so much time sleeping.
