DH's favorite name. We're a NN family, though, and there is NOTHING I'd do with Persephone that I'd want to hear.

I like Persephone!
I love Greek names - my favorite is Ianthe. It means violet (the flower). (ee-AN-thee)

This. If you're going to name a kid the name of a mythological figure, make sure you like the myth!
I LOVE it and DH likes it but we think it is probably way too much. I would have nn her Sephie or Pers.
We are going with Penelope instead...which I think I love even more
This name is so fussy IMO. I'm just not a fan at all. I feel the same way about Seraphina though, and everyone seems to love it, so take it for what it's worth.
I do, however, like Penelope a lot.
Effie is a cute nn for Persephone.
I adore Persephone but a nn would be difficult. It might have to come from a mn.
I know a Zenobia (Z) and a Penelope (Penny). Love those names too - I'm so jealous that I have a "common 80's" name and these ladies are my age with such cool names! I have a guilty pleasure in Greek myth names
1998 Ovarian Cancer Survivor. 7 Miscarriages: 6w, 13w2d, 4w2d, 7w4d (DD's twin), 5w. Failed Tubal after c/s (!!): 5w2d, 6w4d
A Greek friend of mine's middle name is Persephone and she HATED it all throughout grade school. It made sense with her family, but it was a tough name to have.
Also, the whole goddess of the underworld/pomegranate teasing...just nms.

Eeek. Iphigenia was sacrificed to the gods. Persephone's myth is at least kind of cool.

I mentioned that too! I said "So you're naming your kid 'Sacrifice to parental hubris' and you really don't see the irony?" They were not amused. But then, they won't be the ones being called 'It's a vagina' in middle school.
Oh, nonononono! I didn't even think of that!
Mostly, I ignore stupid NN, but that would be hard to ignore.

Not that it matters but Ianthe is pronounced (I-an-thee)
ROFL! No, DS has a name that was in the top 50--traditional. DD's name hasn't broken the top 1000 in a number of years but is also very traditional and not odd at all.
Most likely, our male name will be Andrew (Drew) and female will be Helena, Eleanor, Theodora, Honora, or Ginevra, if we ever manage to get pregnant with a sticky baby again.
Persephone wouldn't fit the sibs at ALL.
