What's going on with me (long)

Here's my saga. I posted on FB but I didn't want to go into detail.

When I was pregnant with Alexis I had contractions from early on and was in L&D every other week for IVs and FFN tests. I was hoping it wouldn't happen again, but I started having contractions early in my 2nd tri and my OB decided to put me on weekly progesterone shots which are supposed to help with the contractions. They didn't go away but were less frequent. I had also been having bi-weekly u/s to measure my cervix, with Alexis it started to shorten early but never got too bad. Yesterday when I had my u/s my OB was concerned by what she saw and sent me over to the hospital to have it looked at on their machine. Cervix was a lot shorter than it had been and short enough to warrant putting me on bed rest. Add to that I started contracting even more so they had to give me meds to stop them.

Now I'm on bed rest until further notice, could be the rest of the pregnancy. I'm also on procardia which is also supposed to stop contractions, I take that every 6 hours. I go back to the OB next week to measure my cervix again and if it shows any change then she's going to give me steroid shots to help Brooke's lungs develop.

My parents are around since they have retired from full time work and are both part time professors now. They will be picking Alexis up from school and hanging out until Marc gets home and moving in while he's out of town. It SUCKS having to be on bed rest, but I'll do what I have to because it's too early.

Brooke and I could use any thoughts and prayers you could spare!!!!

  • Oh no! :( My thoughts and prayers are with you! Thank God you have your parents to help you out. It's for everyone's benefit that you just relax and try to make the best of bed rest. Hopefully it won't be for the rest of the pregnancy, but if it is, it's not the end of the world (you'll be there before you know it!!!).

By the way, I love the name Brooke! And i LOVE "Brooke and Alexis", they go great together! <3

  • Oh no :( definitely lots of t&p's headed you and Brooke's way!

I'm surprised they didn't suggest a cerclage? I would think that's a common way to stop your cervix from shortening/dialating no?

Either way, just try to take it easy. Get lots of rest! At least your parents are around to help.

I agree with Clari I love the girls names together!

  • Ohh Leanna, positive thoughts and prayers for you and Brooke.  It sucks to be on bedrest, but you are very blessed to have parents that can help with Alexis.

  • Justine, I asked about cerclage and apparently that needs to be done earlier in pregnancy. At this point it can cause infection and other complications. So, there's really nothing more than can be done than they're already doing.

  • Oh no :( so sorry to hear this.  Did OB send you to a high risk dr?  They do not like doing emergency cerclages...sometimes they don't work and/or can cause more problems than good.  Incompetent cervix mama here...I had my 1st loss at 21 weeks due to a short cervix and premature rupture of membranes so I get a cerclage as a precaution from 13/15 wks to 36 wks and am on modified bedrest, barely any walking, no lifting, pelvic rest, etc. It is going to be different now w/an infant.  Good luck to you.  Nice that you have help around :)

  • OMG! I totally missed you posting on FB. You poor thing :(

I'm so glad that your doctors are monitoring you and that you're being taken care of, though. These last few months will fly by and you'll have Brooke in your arms as a reward.

    ::hugs::

Praying for you, honey. If you need book recommendations to keep you busy, let me know :)

  • Leanna, I will be sending lots of t&p's your way.  Hopefully, you wont have to be on bedrest for too long, but hang in there.  Keep us posted on your next OB visit.
  • I've been a little MIA from the internet for a while and had no idea you were having issues with your pregnancy. I'll definitely be keeping you & Brooke in my prayers and hoping that the rest of your pregnancy is as uneventful as possible. I've heard bedrest sucks, but try to make the best of it - once Brooke's here, the rest will be few and far between! xoxoxoxox
  • I missed your post on FB too.  You and Brooke are in my thoughts and prayers.
