Urine Retention relief :(

Does anyone know of a safe remedy for Urine retention?  I haven't felt like my bladder has been completely emptied for the last 3-4 weeks and I am just miserable.  I have to pee all day/night long and everytime I go I immediately feel like I have to pee again.  So I try to go again and I get a few dribbles and I still feel like I need to pee when I get up again, but I can't sit on the toilet all day long.  I have also tried bending over, standing up, squatting on the floor, and sitting backwards on the toilet and still no relief.  My Dr. just keeps giving me urine tests to test for infection but they all come back negative.  I need some releif before I literally go insane or become really depressed.

I also had this issue pre pregnancy it was just never this bad and only got worse around my period.  Now I'm uncomfortable 24-7.

  • I wish I had tips but I think I'm experiencing the same thing Tongue Tied  It sucks the most when I'm trying to go to sleep, so annoying.

  • Have you tried to lift your belly up a bit? The little guy yesterday was sitting completely on my bladder and I was having problems with it but once I lifted the belly I was able to completely empty my bladder. Good luck!! Its awful!

  • I'm having similar issues myself; it hurts so much to pee!  I went to the doctor in pain on Monday, and they had to insert a catheter in order to empty my distended bladder.

What I've been doing since then is forcing myself to pee every two hours (any longer and it hurts too much).  I've cut off liquids after 8pm in order to minimize middle of the night potty runs.  When I'm in the restroom, I take a deep breath, exhale slowly and proceed to pee.  When I'm done, I stay on the toilet for at least five more minutes breathing slowly and leaning forward (sometimes rocking) until I pee once more.  According to a brochure I found online, some people find it helpful to scratch their lower back or tap their bladder.

Good luck to you; I would love to hear others' tips on peeing freely.

  • I know you said you tried bending over, but have you tried lifting your belly while you bend over? I find that helps get my bladder completely empty. Sometimes the way the baby sits it makes it hard for me to empty my bladder as well.

  • I've been to the urologist twice for this exactly. The first time they dilated my uretha(uncomfortable!!). I did get relief for about a week and a half. So I went back yesterday. They can only give you a catheter until like 21weeks or it can cause preterm labor. Yesterday they told me that what I may have is a disease of the bladder that causes your brain to think you have to urinate 24/7. Unfortunately the testing for this isn't safe during pregnancy and the meds aren't either. So I'll have to deal with it for the next 4 months and it could be caused by pregnancy so it may go away after birth. I really wanted to have a breakdown hearing this news cause I've been doing the same as you trying to force it out sitting on the toilet for hours and loosing tons of sleep! The dr did give me tylenol 3 and said to take half only when I've reached my limit to try and help me sleep. He said the drugs would probably be less harmful then the stress that this will put on my fetus. Hopefully you don't have the same thing but I highly recomend going to a urologist.
