Breech Baby C section scheduled...

So I had my apt today and the u/s showed what I already knew..she's still breech. My baby has NEVER been heads down.  She hasn't changed positions..she's not one of those babies that moves a lot or flips back and forth. Do you think she could still move at the last minute? My doctor said there is a slight chance. I just doubt it.

I will be 36 weeks on Monday...we scheduled the csection for one week before my due date of 10/24. Its scheduled for the 17th.  Doctor said we should schedule now and unless things change (go into labor before then or baby flips) then that will be her bday.

Oh and Ive been having a lot of back pain..doctor did cervical check last week...nothing..and again today..nothing. At this point I just want her to stay put...I am measuring a little small...and we believe i am small on the inside like my mom was...and there probably isnt room for her to turn. Also..Ive gained 33 lbs...but EVERYONE that meets me can't believe Im a month from my due date..they all say Im soooo small. So it kind of freaks me out when ppl say things like that! I am so paranoid anyways!

My question is this:  Do you think that my baby will turn if she has never been heads down and doesnt move much?  Most ppl Ive read about say their baby turns, but thats because their babies were moving or flipping a lot anyways....just curious.

Thanks!

Re: Breech Baby C section scheduled...

  • I am in a similar position.  I could tell that she has been breech for quite some time.  That was confirmed by my 38 week ultrasound today.  Like yours, she was never head down and never had a ton of movement. The doc mentioned that she COULD turn, but because they like to do c-sections by week 39 AND the fact that I have PUPPS, they scheduled my c-section for 9/25. That's 10 days before my due date. Good luck to you and your LO.

  • DD was transverse-she never went head down and her movements were nothing like they are with this one.  i had a c section at 39 weeks and Dr said it looked like she had grown into her position.

there is always the chance your LO can turn, but it is better to be prepared for c section and by some chance not have one.  just try to stay posititive and focused on having a healthy baby.

  • I'm in the same spot.  LO turned to breech two weeks ago and he seems pretty set where he is.

We scheduled my RCS for 10/21 tentatively. Only 4 days before my due date.

  • My baby has also never been head down, so I just had a C-section scheduled for  10-7...7 days before my due date.  I was a little bummed at first, but at the end we get the same result-a beautiful baby, right?  Also, the ladies on the C-section board made me feel better (even though I mostly just lurked there, it was enough).  Good luck!

  • My LO has also never been head down, at least that I am aware of.  From what I can tell and from a couple different ultrasounds along the way, she has been breech since at least 26-27 weeks and has not flipped once.  We also scheduled a c-section for 39 weeks.  My OB said while yes, there is a chance she could flip, it was extremely doubtful considering the situation.  They'll do another u/s the morning of the c-section to confirm she is still head up.

  • This is me as well.  My due date is 10/10 and with the breech baby we've scheduled the c-section for 9/28...

My doctor has had two moms lately that had breech babies their entire pregnancy and he does ultrasounds just before starting the procedure. Both of these moms for whatever reason had their babies flip within a day or so of the surgery and both moms didn't feel anything!  Granted, he said that this was uncommon, but it can happen...  In those cases, my doctor sent both moms home.  In both cases, both moms ended up going into labor on their own and delivered vaginally.  I'm guessing that since that is so uncommon in the first place and for my doctor to have TWO cases like that recently, that those moms have taken all the good last minute flip mojo, but a girl can always, hope, right??  :)

Good luck to you and your LO, and everyone else in this situation!

  • I know quite a few people that had their baby flip right before labor (although sadly for them the baby flipped to breech!). But babies are pretty amazing so anything can happen. I would just make sure they do an ultrasound on the day of the c-section if you are still interested in a vaginal birth.

You could also read about some of the techniques to flip babies and practice them until it is time for your c-section. You never know. Good luck

  • My baby is also breech and I think that he/she has been for a while. I have a C-section scheduled for Oct 6, 8 days before my due date. (I was going to have the baby between 38-39 weeks anyway due to GD). My OB said she will do an ultrasound before surgery to make sure the baby hadn't flipped, and if the baby had, she would induce labor and try for a vaginal birth.

    Good luck!
