Are hair feathers big where you live?

They seem to be popular here. Is it everywhere?  A lot of the girls at DD's school are wearing them. My mother had one when she visited.  Do you or your DD have one?  Would you get DD one?

Re: Are hair feathers big where you live?

  • Yes, they're very popular here. I think they're strange and don't plan on getting one for DD.

  • they're big where we live too.  dd keeps asking for one.  I think I'll probably take her to get one on her bday (coming up).

anyone know how much they cost, approximately?

  • Yes they are big here, no I wouldn't get one. I don't have anything against them, they just aren't my style. I mostly see them on young girls and teenagers. Our school district banned them so I haven't seen as many since school started but over the summer they were huge.

My hairdresser sells 3 for $20 or $7 for each individual one.

  • I would not and I would not let DD either. If you get a "real" feather, they are rooster feathers and they kill the roosters after ripping all of their feathers off. At least that is what I heard, and as a former Vegetarian struggling to be one again, I'm just not cool with that. And I just think that the faux ones are ugly.

  • Would I ever get one? No. According to a sign I drive by everyday, they are now available at SuperCuts, which to me means the "trend" is no longer trendy, it's played out.

Would I get a child one? Sure why not. I think there are ones that are actually sewed in like a real extension and others that just clip in so I am sure the price varies based on what you get but I don't think they are that much regardless.

  • I thought I had read that this trend was over...

yet people still keep getting them.

P.S.   Are gaucho pants still 'in'?  I saw three people wearing them today (haven't seen anyone in years!)...     They were very comfortable when pregnant though!

  • I see them occasionally. I would get my girls them but that kind of think is banned at their school. I wouldn't because I can barely make it to the salon once a year as it is.
  • Not really here, but maybe it's just because I'm over age 20.

I honestly don't get the trend? When I think feathers in one's hair I think of Janis Joplin, Steven Tyler or some hippie riding a VW bus through the desert high on peyote.

  • They are not banded at our elementary school; one of DDs bff has one. Trends take forever to reach us in this size town!! I think I might get dd one. I still love my pair of gauchos : )

I'm totally wearing some right now from Chico's from several years ago...but I'm so short they fit me as regular pants!

ETA: I am not 60 and don't regularly shop at Chico's, but someone gave me these! :)

  • Yes, they're big and yes both the girls have already had one this summer.  My niece was here and had them so all three (my niece and the girls) got one at the mall recently.  It doesn't bother me.  We just took those out since they were looking ratty but they were cheap from the mall.  I told the girls we could get them new feathers soon.
  • When I think of feathers in hair I think of the stoners in middle and high school.

I've not seen any around here, so I guess they're not that big.

  • They are hugely popular around here. One of my BFF's works in a salon and they can't keep them in stock. DD doesn't know what they are yet, not sure if I'd let her get one or not. BFF put one in her 3 year old's hair, but because she did it herself. I thought about getting one for myself, but it's just not me. The feathers my BFF uses are fairly small so they aren't hugely noticeable once in your hair.

ETA: I think her salon charges $15/pc for the feathers.

  • I see them everywhere.  Lari, the ones I've seen are pretty subtle, so unless you know what to look for, you might not notice.

  • Yes, many of the girls at my school have them.

I saw a couple teachers with them and thought it was odd.  I think if a 9 year old is wearing something, a 29 year old is too old to be wearing it.....  Maybe that's just me though.

If DD was older (had more hair) and she wanted one, I'd let her.

  • This is a dumb question, but what happens when you wash your hair? Does it just clip in and out or would you have wet chicken feathers in your hair?

  • Call me abitchbut anyone over the age of 14 that would put these in their hair is a hot tranny mess.

And yes, they're huge here.  In the elementary-middle school set.

  • They are pretty big here. I think they are ok for teenagers.

There are a couple of gals my age from church who have them and I think once you hit 30, you should probably steer clear from it.

  • They are popular here. I wouldn't get ones I think it's a trend for the younger crowd but if I had a DD I probably would let her get one.

  • I have never seen them here. I suppose DD could take some of our parrot's feathers and tuck them in a pony tail.

  • They are and I wouldn't. My friend has one and it looks cute on her but she's also 7 years younger than me.

  • I love them, and I've been thinking about doing one or two..the really skinny ones.

if there are cruelty free ones, of course.

omgz im so tacky! (lol.) im not that mature, so it's probably perfectly appropriate for me!
