Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Too early for Jumperoo?

DS likes to kick his legs a lot and tries to jump/stand/march when you hold him upright... I know he's just turning 3 mo, but is he too little to put in a freestanding jumperoo??? He has pretty good head control and I don't think he'd be able to bounce so much that he would hurt his neck, but just want some other opinions first...TIA!

Re: Too early for Jumperoo?

  • Every baby is different but my DS is almost five months and he can only do about ten minutes in the exasaucer and we haven't taken the jumparoo out yet. DD was pretty much the same!

  • Loading the player...
  • I'm waiting to use the jumperoo with my daughter until she can hold herself upright. I think other moms are already using it with their LOs though (not sure).
  • DS was in it when he was that age, but he couldn' really jump in it. His legs were too short and we had to put a little pillow behind his back so he wouldn't fall back. He was better with teh exersaucer early on because his legs reached the ground in that one.
  • The best way to find out is to give it a try.  You will know pretty quickly if he is not ready.
  • We put DS in the jumperoo around 3 months, but it was more like a sitteroo at that point.  He did like to sit in it, he has only recently started to jump.

  • Check the instructions that came with yours.  I have the Bright Starts bounce-a-bout, and the manual tells you not to use it until your baby can sit up on his own.

  • I didn't put DD in the jumperoo until she was 4 months, but we did use the exersaucer a bit.  You could always try it and see how he does.

This. We started around 2.5 -3mo and he still doesn't jump but he is entertained and enjoys it.

  • I have a Baby Einstein Jumparoo that I bought when I had DS.  DD turned 5 months yesterday and I just pulled it out of the storage today and I am cleaning it up and washing the pieces.  As soon as I'm finished I'll put DD in it and see how it goes.

I also ditto the person that said to check the manual for recommended ages because they're all different.  Mine is approved for babies 4+ months and up to 25 lbs.

we did too. I put a pillow underneath so he could reach and he just sat and played with everything. He loved it right away. After a few days of putting him in it for a few mins, he learned how to turn the seat around and get to all the toys. Now he bounces and plays with everything and is in it like 3x per day!

I also added extra "links" to ours so he could reach more things to play with... and we hang teethers, etc on it. We have this one:
