Yeast Infection...Really???

As if I didn't have enough to take care of on me - thrice daily pads, breast pads, doctoring my sutures, barely having time to eat and shower, but I think I am getting a YI.  I am sure it is because of the moisture down there - TMI - sorry, but I wanted to ask if any of you have experienced the itchiness?

I will call my doctor tomorrow to find out if Monistat is safe.

Re: Yeast Infection...Really???

  • I had one too but due to the antibiotics I had to take for my UTI! I felt like everything was being thrown at me. I used the OTC stuff - it was safe for breastfeeding.

  • I didn't have any symptoms but my OB diagnosed it at my 6 wk checkup.  I was told that it was mild case at that time and I could do the one day monistat treatment. I'm sure it was b/c of the discharge which in my case didn't let up until almost 5 wks.  Be aware  if you are bf'ing the possibility of transmitting the yeast to your breast and ending up with thrush.  I ended up only using my towels once after showering and ensuring to wash your hands well after using the bathroom so as not to transmit to LO.  Hope you feel better soon!

  • Did they put you on antibiotics? I had IV antibiotics and oral ones after my csection, so they sent me home with a diflucan prescription with 3 refills to keep away the yeast. Monistat is fine for breastfeeding by the way. Feel better!

  • I feel your pain... I had YI and bacterial infections off and on (mainly on) for 5 months!!!! Yup... not kidding... I would def call the Dr and make sure you can use monistat but just a warning... mine was so bad that when I used the monistat I felt like my you know what was on fire!! Dr. said it has alcohol in it... UGH! Oh and if you let it go too long it can become a bacterial infection.. I had a crazy time getting rid of everything. Eat some plain yogurt (yummy) and good luck! I hope you don't have the issues I did!
  • I got one as well about 1-2 weeks after DS was born due to antibiotics from an infection I got from complications with my uterus after birth.  They suck.  I agree.
