I've never had DD in shoes so I was just wondering if people waited until they were walking. I'm just thinking once it gets colder out she might need another layer on her feet. Are there better shoes for younger babies?
I did buy DS shoes at the end of last September. He would had been 5.5 months. They were just the pre-walkers from Stride Rite. I also bought him a pair of Robeez which he maybe only wore a handful of times. He figured out how to get them off and honestly they were a pain in the tail trying to get on his feet because of his chubby feet. Only time I had the pre walkers on were when he was out in the cold.
I got T some shoes when she was 9 or 10 months old and more likely to be standing outside. It was too much bother before that - squishing little feet into shoes, taking them off for diaper changes when they got in the way. Until your LO is either pulling her socks off and getting cold or might be standing somewhere you don't want her barefoot, I would put it off.
But then, T runs warm so I was never worried about her needing an extra layer on her feet. Socks, long sleeves and pants have typically been enough for her in winter.
M still doesn't wear shoes on a regular basis. He wears them when he goes to the playground at school, and occasionally I'll put them on him so he can walk around our patio, but he kind of hates them and prefers to walk barefoot or in socks.
Last winter I just put socks on him. If we were going to be outside for an extended period of time and I was worried about him being cold, I covered his legs and feet in a blanket.

We just did socks too with a blanket if it was cold. We started DD in shoes (Robeez-esque) when she began walking outside and then moved to See Kai Run/Stride Rite for outside wear when she got the full hang of walking. No shoes inside.
At the age that they want to be standing up and cruising or walking while out in public. For DS, that was around 7 mo. For DD, it was 9 mo. They are always barefoot at home.
Ditto pp - barefoot or Robeez for most of his first year - I don't think we bought him "real" hard soled shoes until he had gotten the hang of walking. 13, 14 months?
I think someone gave us a pair of Robeez a while back. They were way huge at the time and I haven't pulled them out in a while. I'll check them out. I also think shoes are silly for babies, which is why I asked. I didn't know if there was a reason to wear them before they started walking around.
We still haven't really put shoes on our kids. I just bought some Robeez last week, although we haven't tried them yet. They aren't walking yet, so they aren't ever outside standing on the ground. We go to a small in-home daycare where they can be barefoot or in socks all day. I bought the Robeez just b/c I started feeling like it looked weird for them not to be in shoes out in public. Once they start walking, we'll get them fitted for real shoes but I don't want to do that before then and then have their feet grow.
Socks and Robeez (mainly because I kept finding super cute ones at Marshall's) for his first year. C took forever to walk and I think I did put some non-Robeez on him when we went outside in the fall/winter before he was actually walking.
