best tips to transition from....

RNP to crib?

*yes she still sleeps in her rock n play.... since i had her i have known of 3 people's babies who passed away from SIDS & i have been terrified of it, i have been more comfortable with her next to me. i told her dr this at her 6 month check up and since it is a certified bassinet & she meets the weight requirements they had no problem with it sooooo if you were gonna flame me-take that somewhere else ;) thanks!

  • Put the RNP next to her crib for a few days.  Then just put her in the crib & get ready to Ferberize.

  • DD is still in her pnp (cousin died of sids, and that was 11 years ago).

We are transferring her to her crib in October.  I am really dreading it.

You realize Ferber is not the only option right? Or are you attempting to take over as the obnoxious sleep expert?

    Yes and loving you Kdodge!

  • I went from the RNP to the borrowed bassinet to the crib.  After I had done this my friend told me that she started putting the RNP in the crib to get her son use to his crib and eventually just put him in the crib alone and it worked out great for her

Please...Ferber isn't always necessary. We just transitioned DS from his RNP to the crib 2 weeks ago. It's been a struggle but it has slowly gotten better. We put a pillow under one side of the matress to elevate it slightly to help DS transition. I think it also helped that for two weeks before our nighttime move we, switched all DS's daytime naps to the crib.

  • DS sometimes still takes naps in his RNP, so no flames.  We transitioned at 2 months since he was sleeping through the night.  He didn't sleep through the night when we moved him for about a week, and then he was fine.  I'd think at this point he'll like it even better because he'll have room to move.  We just put him in the crib and that was it.  We didn't try naps or time in there, we just put him in there after his bedtime routine and that's what worked.

  • I never used a RNP... We've almost always bed shared.
Tonight she is in her crib, however.

But I cheated. I removed the drop-side, which always freaked me out anyways... And pushed it against my side of the bed. I secured it in place and tucked blankets in the cracks. I mean, really, that thing ain't moving unless the bed moves.
I just nursed her to sleep with her "in" the crib and me in the bed. Then I put up a barrier so she doesn't find her way out.

  • Of course it's not the only option.  Because I suggest one option that means that's all there is?  I kinda meant it as funny b/c so many on here suggest doing that, which is why I was short about it.  Sorry it got under your skin, I can see how making a baby cry would do that.  :)
