ugh..people who are sick vent

I have never understood why people go to work or students go to school sick. That is what sick days are for. I had a student come in today and said "I started throwing up last night", and when I asked if she was still sick, she said I don't feel good. Then WHY COME TO SCHOOL?!?! I'm 11 days away from my due date, I do not need a stomach virus right now. It annoyed me before I was pregnant, but it infuriates me now that I'm pregnant.

I don't understand this either. I usually bust out the Lysol spray or some sort of anti-bacterial wipe and start using them right in front of them so that they're aware that I think that they're gross and have contaminated the area.

On another note, 11 days!! Surprise

As soon as this period is over, I'm going on a hunt for Lysol. I have my hand sanitizer on my desk, and have used it about 3 times in 45 minutes. And yes, I'm trying not to freak out over 11 days! lol.

  • I will never understand why people don't call out sick (or stay home from school in your situation) when they are actually sick! Boggles my mind as well. I think what annoys me even MORE is after I have the baby.. everyone wants to come visit and hold her/see her/etc .. even if they have a cold!! So help me God if someone thinks that is going to happen! My own mother called and said that if she was sick that she would wait until she was symptom free to see her 1st grandchild. I wanted to hug her haha.

Also.. I hope you find Lysol.. and yay for only 11 more days!

  • I completely agree.  The company that my DH works for has a very strict policy that if you are sick, and you come to work, they will immediately send you home.  I think it's so ridiculous that people don't take others into consideration.  By coming to work or school, you are putting all of the healthy people at risk, and it just makes no sense!
  •  I hope you find your Lysol!!

Maybe because they get no sick time... Too many people in my office come in sick because we get so little PTO and work such long days, it takes nearly two months to rebuild from a single day off. God forbid  we have to take off more than one day.  Plus, we get in trouble if we call in more than one day in a row.

    DANCE DRONES!

    I need a new job...

  • What bugs me the most is people who come in sick and act like a martyr about it. In this day and age, if there is something you absolutely must do, it is usually possible to work from home or call in and give someone instructions on how to handle the task. No matter how important we all think we are at work, very few of us have jobs that actually deal with emergencies that can't wait 24 hours.

You don't get a medal for coming to the office sick, especially if you give your illness to everyone else.

    Agreed!

My boss is convinced that the place will fall apart if she's not there... and she may also be convinced that there actually is a medal in it for her.  She comes in sick & does the whole martyr thing... and openly criticizes subordinates who choose to take sick time.  Pre-preg, it bothered me to the the point that I wouldn't call off when sick for fear of her backlash.  That went out the window about 32 weeks ago.

  • At my appointment 2 weeks ago, the lady in registration was sick. I asked how she was doing, and she proceeds to tell me that she had been throwing up and had diarrhea that night. She said she wanted to call in sick, but her supervisors basically said she had to come in or they would have to shut the clinic down. I washed my hands as soon as I left her office and used hand sanitizer continuously. I can't believe that they would force a person who deals with pregnant women to come to work sick. ugh!

  • What makes me mad are the people whose child has a fever, so they give them tylenol to bring the fever down, then drop their kid off at day care.  Then they are upset when they get a call a few hours later to come get their child because he/she has a fever.  Then you wonder why your kid has a new sickness every week? I think it's very selfish, and I'm grateful I get to stay at home.
  • I can't stand that. This lady in my office does that all the time and it drives me nuts. I just try to stay in my office and avoid her.
  • Over the past 2 weeks everyone in my office has been passing around the same head cold.  I keep telling them to go home, get out of my space with their germs, stay away from me, don't touch anything, etc., but sure as shinola I get it too.  Then it turns into a darned sinus infection on top of it.  Like that's what I need at 37+ weeks pregnant, people.  Jerks!
