If you have a kid who's walking...

How long did it take from his/her first real steps to full blown walking?

Just curious...DS took his first steps almost 3 weeks ago but is still struggling with it.  He'll pull up on the couch and go maybe half the length of the living room before he falls.

  • Katie took her first steps a couple of weeks ago and now she totters along like a drunken sailor.

She walks more than she crawls, unless she's in a hurry to get somewhere.  She's very busy and important, donchyaknow.

  • DD took her first steps Sunday and can get between 3-15 wobbly steps before falling down, but she still seems to prefer walking while holding on to our fingers.  She's extremely cautious.

  • It took a week or two. He's full blown walking (as fast as he can) right now, but he's still wobbling like a sorority girl on her walk of shame. OH, and don't call his name when he's walking. If Gideon has to turn around, he'll fall over (though he's getting better).

  • Grant is very cautious.  He's been taking steps for a month now and is just now going the length of the room before falling.

Morgan took steps and literally a week later she was running.

So, obviously it depends on your kid.

  • DS took what I consider his first steps on 9/3/11 (although DH said he saw them a day or two before but didn't tell me (he's a SAHD)).  But DS only does 3-4 steps still before he falls down.  He's a super fast cruiser though.

But crawling and cruising is still his preferred method of getting around.  Though he's fantastic at squating and standing back up, or getting in a half squat and standing back up.  He's just not going beyond 4 steps.

    This.
  • C cruised holding the couch or table for about 3 weeks or so first before his first actual steps. Only took about a week or two after that, and he runs a few steps at a time now.
