we breast feed but also use bottles for my pumped milk and sadly we have to supplement because i am not producing enough for both. So its 80 %BF 20% formula - I have tried all the help me things to produce more... constant lasting, naked breastfeeding, herbals supplements, oatmeal, lactation cookies.. You name it -
Anyhow we use Dr. Browns bottles and one of our girls does great nursing and with bottles - the other is not a great latcher and certainly not a great sucker- usually always falls asleep - on the boob but get so frustrated and does ok with the bottle but makes a mess and we are using the slowest nipple... Dr. Browns make- how do we know when to switch to a faster flow ...
Anything we can do to help our poor sucker become abetter sucker and less messier of a sucker - we feed her sitting up but there is still spillage out the sides and tons of dribble...
- Just wondering

Re: feeding questions - geez today is like questionmania
I found Dr Brown's nipples to be faster flow than Avent. Have you tried other brands? My DS2 was a super messy feeder for a while and then one day he just got better. I don't remember at what point it happened, but he improved on his own. My friend who is a NICU nurse also told me to hold 2 of my fingers under his chin while he sucks to keep his jaw tight to the nipple. (sorry, it's hard to explain by typing). That helped a little, but mostly with time he just got better on his own. I put extra formula in his bottle to compensate for what he drooled away.
I upped the nipple size when my kids either started falling asleep during feedings or went from quicker feedings to randomly taking forever again.
