Flossie

So my MIL just posted on my FB wall that she thinks we should consider the name Flossie, if we have a girl. It was her great grandmother's name...not sure if it was her given name or a NN. 

I'm a dental hygienist and talk about flossing all day long...don't think I could get past that connection and it is a terrible name!

    I have an Aunt Flossie. Its her nn for Florence. She is 90. I can't imagine a little girl with this name.

    I misread this and thought "fosse," which led me to think of jazz hands.

    And, I agree with pp-I can't imagine a little girl with this name at all!

    I've seen a lot of older, southern patients with that name since working in insurance & hospital billing.

    That's a sweet old name, but it's one of those names that I can't see "crossing over" into this generation... just like Erma and Dorcas.

    Flossie is a sheep's name, I thought... you know, because of their wool?

    Florence is pretty, but Flossie is just awful.

    For a baby, no.  But, we have a puppy we've been trying to name for a week and Flossie is now her name.  So, thanks for the post; it inspired my dog's new name!

    Your patients would definitely know you are serious about flossing!

    The name makes me think of DD's favorite book right now, Richard Scarry's Cars and Trucks and Things that Go.  There's a police officer named Officer Flossie.  I think she's a fox.

    I'm glad my MIL doesn't try to suggest names.  lol

    My Chinese MIL thought that my DD's name, which is incredibly frilly and ends in "ia," sounded like a boy's name.
