I donated blood last month and my donor card just came in today and it said I am A-, my blood tests have not come back to my Doctor so he does not know my blood type. I searched if A negative was a safe blood type and it turns out since I am negative so will my RH. My husband does not know if he is a negative or positive blood type but seeing how a lot of people come up positive I fear now the consequences of having a positive blood type baby. I am reading as much as I can into the risks and that they can give injections for the antibodies my body might create against my baby.
I am going to call my Dr. tomorrow about my discovery and see if he wants to see me sooner then 2 weeks or if he wants my husband to do a test to find out his blood type. Any ladies here that are RH-negative? What has your doctor told you to do so far?
Re: Just found out I am Rh-negative.....
This. I'm not negative, but there is never a big issue with this anymore. They will just give you a Rhogam shot before baby is born and after.

I had asked this last week...

I am o- and my husband is +. I've gotten the shot once with this pregnancy with some spotting I had around 4 wks. I also had one after a miscarriage. At my first appt, they screen you to see if you've already developed antibodies. If you have, they monitor your pregnancy more closely. If you haven't, they give you the shots accordingly, around 28 wks (I think) before birth, and after, mostly to protect future pregnancies from what I understand.
I was worried about it at first but have since come to discover it is common.
BFP#1 EDD 11/8/11 - MC @ 9w6d, 4/15/11 we said goodbye
BFP#2 DD arrived 5/7/12
Not to mention that the fake autism link was with vaccines. Rhogam isn't a vaccine.

WHOA, no need to be so catty. It's not like those worries don't come to mind when you're new at this. I know nothing has been linked to anything particular, but that doesn't mean concern isn't raised when something new is introduced to you. I was making fun at my own paranoia. Christ, have a little graciousness people!
I apologize if this has already been mentioned, but I didn't see it in anyone's posts.
I think it is very important to mention that first pregnancies are NOT affected in any way. The rhogam is to protect against future pregnancies, so even if you find out after you become pregnant and this is your first, there's nothing to worry about.
Like pp said, you will get a shot around 28 weeks and then after delivery. If there is any bleeding before this time, you will also get a shot then.
The purpose of the rhogam is to prevent your body from producing antibodies that can attack subsequent pregnancies if that babies blood type is positive.
