Which date to use??

in 1st Trimester

Its all so confusing -- I had my first u/s today and baby is measuring 8 weeks and 3 days which is 3 days ahead according to my LMP. My LMP due date is May 2nd, I believe my u/s adjusted due date would be April 29, but my OB used the little circle chart and said my due date is May 4th. What gives?? Perhaps his chart is old and not accounting for the leap year? 

I know due dates are never really spot on, but I would love your thoughts on it all! TIA!

    i don't think drs really know or can predict exactly how far along you are/due date.  they base it on the "textbook" development and monthly cycles but everyone is different and every pregnancy is different.  it seems like everyone keeps posting that their dr said they are a few days ahead or behind.  babies are frequently born days or weeks early or late - there's just too many unknowns.  the important thing is that you see progress from one visit to the next.  whatever due date they pick, you can't really plan to give birth on that exact date anyway.  just have to go with the baby's flow!

    for my first pregnancy, I thought  I was 3 days ahead of what the dr decided after my u/s.  I just went by that.  He was 10 days late from there anyways, so its just a guideline!

    Thanks ladies. I definitely know that some babies come early or late--my son was a week late and I had to be induced--but I was curious why my doctor could be so off. I did some research and I do believe my doctor was off in his calculations due to the leap year. 

    It seems that most doctors calculate due dates by counting back 3 months from your LMP and adding 7 days. That puts my due date at May 4th if you DON'T count the extra day in February in 2012. That said, I'm going to go with my LMP due date of 5/2 until we have our NT scan. If we're measuring ahead at that time, we'll readjust.  

    Thanks again! All these dates can be tricky.

    my doctor told me to use the due date from the u/s measurements. so if i were you, i'd use aug 29th. (i'm 7wk5days and my due date is may 4th)

    I think it is a 1st trimester thing to obsess about your DD.  I am trying to stop! lol.  But my first was born 2 weeks late and the 2nd 2 weeks early.  The due date won't matter as much once you hit that window in your last trimester.
