December 2011 Moms

What a week and its only Wednesday.......

Wow this has to be the most horrible week of this pregnancy yet.  I really need this week to end and things to move on.  Very early Monday morning (1:30 am)  my husband and I lost our 13 year old German Sheppard Alex.  He was our baby boy and we miss him so much.  We were so happy that we were next to him petting him and holding him for his last breaths but still it is so hard.  My husband can't even walk around the house without crying.  Alex was his shadow.  He did everything with us and got to do a lot more than most dogs ever do.  Our 3yr old DD is having a very tough time with it also and she and her daddy cry every night as they says their prayers (she asks God to please make Alex feel loved like we did).  My 5yr old DD is our rock.  Without her I think we all would be lost.  Our other dog (8yr old Akita) has totally changed almost like she has taken on his personality.  She constantly kisses everyone now, and barks and she won't go near the food corner or his water bowl.  She just lays at my feet until DH comes home and then she is right next to him.  It is so hard and so sad and yet I am happy he is not suffering and that he went on his own instead of us having to keep the appointment for Monday afternoon to put him down.  Anyway, thanks for letting me release this as I can't really do it with my DH because he is just way to distraught for any of it.  Sorry for being such a downer today.

  • That is so hard. We lost my 14 year old dog last year. I know how you're feeling. It really is losing a member of the family. I still miss him very much, but it does get easier.

If it helps at all, it's better that he was old and sick now, and not later when you have a newborn to take care of too. My dog was having a lot of trouble when DD was little, and I felt really guilty that I couldn't devote as much attention to his care as I wanted too.

So sad, my heart is with you and your family.

  • I bawled reading this! My dogs are my babies and I don't know what its going to be like without them one day. My australian shepherd who is like a best friend to me is 10 years old and she's starting to show her age more and more. I'm so dreading the day she's not with me anymore. She's my shadow and we do everything together. I rescued her and I was the only person she trusted for months so we have a special bond.

I"m so sorry to hear about your loss.

  • I am so sorry for your loss. I can't imagine the pain of losing any of my furbabies. Our German Sheperd (long haired) is 9 and a half, I just went up to her and gave her a big hug after ready this.
