I don't think so. DS is going to be Darth Vader for the 3rd time this year. Obviously not the same costume all 3 yrs, but he was very insistent when looking at costumes this year that he wanted to be "Darth again!"
My nephew was a pumpkin 3 years in a row when he was younger, even when the costume really didn't fit the last year - he loved it and wanted to wear it over again. I think it's totally fine.

My girls are wearing their costumes from last year this year again. They saw them hanging in my closet because I was going to put them on ebay to sell and insisted on wearing them. I tried them on and they still fit, so I guess they are a bumble bee and lady bug again this year. I figure at $25 a costume, I am happy to get 2 years out of both of them.

It's not like most people usually remember from year to year IMO.
Our IF journey: 1 m/c, 1 IVF with only 3 eggs retrieved yielding Dylan and a lost twin, 1 shocker unmedicated BFP resulting in Jace, 3 more unmedicated pregnancies ending in more losses.
Total score: 6 pregnancies, 5 losses, 2 amazing blessings that I'm thankful for every single day.
Nope! In fact, DS wants to be Thomas the Train again. Which we didn't encourage, but it makes us super happy because the homemade costume was a real labor of love. It's pretty fabulous.
But he has decided his brother needs to be James, so I guess we better get cracking.

I agree with the others, it's fine. I asked DD what she wants to be this year and she wants her dalmation costume again. It's a 2T/3T costume so it still fits. I'm fine with it because I was letting her choose anyway and it's one less thing to worry about with the new baby on the way.

Re: is it bad if DD repeats her Halloween costume?
We did Buzz and Woody 2 years in a row.
I say let them be what they want.

I was a bunny for three years straight as a kid, by choice. I assure you that I don't look back at pictures and regret my toddler-minded decisions.
If she's asking to be a butterfly again, I agree that you might as well save your time and money!
