Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Your baby/advice re: STTN

Okay...SO! My DS has been STTN since he was 2 months old, so with DD I'm completely stumped. I know every baby is different, I'd just like to get some ideas.  Daisy Lynn is on soy formula. She is still eating 3-4 oz every 4 hours. I add a tiny bit of prune juice to her formula to help with the constipation (pediatrician's suggestion). She sleeps in her crib and seems to be on somewhat of a schedule.  She eats around 9-10pm and wakes up around 2am. The again around 6am. Being a mother of 2u2, DH is in the military, it's been challenging,  but manageable.

Just wondering out of you all, if your LO was on a similar schedule, when did your LO start going longer or skipping the 2am feeding?  When will she start eating more so she can go longer?

Any advice on what's worked for you and LO to transition to STTN.

Thanks!

Re: Your baby/advice re: STTN

  • DD was on the exact schedule as your LO and after the 4 month wakeful she all of a sudden started clutterfeeding in the evening and now sleeps from around 9-10 to 5, somedays she puts herself to bed earlier and wakes up at 12 to eat then bed until 5:30. Also my DD is a snacker and never eats more than 3 oz at a time, but eats very often. So i dont really think it depends on how much they eat.

  • DD started really upping her intake at around 9 weeks, and was sleeping through the night at just about 3 months on the dot.  I was giving her 5 oz a feeding, but she seemed so fussy and unsatisfied that I called my pedi and she said to up it by a half ounce and see if she keeps it down, and if she does it's fine to offer her that much.  Then I should watch her cues and keep doing that.

She went from 5 oz to 6 1/2 at most feedings within a 3 weeks, and then she started sleeping through the night.  She now at almost 14 weeks regularly takes 6 to 7 oz at a feeding which at first made me worry that I was overfeeding her, but she only takes maybe 4 or 5 bottles a day since she sleeps so long at night and takes long naps.

  • DS is breastfed, but he was waking up at 11, 2, and 5:30 at your LO's age. Then he dropped the 11pm feeding and slept from 8-2, 2-5:30, 5:30-7. Two weeks ago he dropped the 2am feeding and moved the ~5am feeding to between 4 and 4:30, so he's now going 8-4:30, then 4:30-7:15. All we've done is wait him out. I figure he'll eventually drop that last feeding all on his own, since he always has before.

  • Once she started eating 6oz at a time she has STTN form 8pm to 7am

  • I am BF and LO was on same schedule. cluster feed til 9/10, 2-3am feed then 6am ish feed. Once she turned 4 months shes really settled down and sleeps through from 8/9pm til 6am at least. We did start rice cereal with vegetables, one tablespoon of rice am and pm. So we all eat breakfast and dinner so does she (my attempt to set good habits!) lol I put a few spoon fulls of gerber veg in her cereal. Whilst I don't solely agree that the cereal is helping her sleep through I think it's helped. Her digestive system seems far better than the first few months, I thought we would struggle but no constipation at all. At about this time she started to roll also, now I have tried and tried but she rolls straight to her tummy to sleep. I am trying to stay calm about it as there is little I can do, I will literally be in there all night if I were to flip her over all the time. She can also soothe herself to sleep on her tummy where as before I used to have to nurse or rock her to sleep. A combination of tummy sleeping and starting solid food I believe has helped us dramatically. Oh and no 4 month wakeful period either (so far)
