Dadchelor parties?

So I had never heard of this before but I guess they're becoming pretty common! I watched Nightline last night and they did a clip on Dadchelor parties, this is where the dad to be gets together with a bunch of guy friends and they all bring him diapers (or other gifts if requested) and then they all go out and party since obviously the dad-to-be will be much to busy after the baby is born.

I thought it was funny, but I told DH if this gets us some diapers then I am more than willing to let him have a night out on a party bus! I was joking, but now I am wondering how many of you have heard of this or have husbands who will be participating?!

Re: Dadchelor parties?

  • This is the first I've ever heard of this.  It sounds ridiculous to me!  I think it would be more beneficial before he becomes a dad to spend some time with you and appreciate being a couple.

Of course, I guess you can't deny the benefits of a male version of a baby shower, especially if it gets you more stuff. ;)

  • We do these in our area, they are just called Diaper Parties.  It's just a good reason for the guys to get together before the baby is born to hang out and drink some beers.  They all have to bring a pack of diapers to the party.  Our male friends just usally play pocker at someone's house.  A lot of my friends haven't had to buy any diapers for like the 1st year.

  • I think I have only heard of this on here.. but I read it as the guys get together to drink beer at someone's house - kind of like on a Sunday to watch football... the stipulation is they bring a pack of diapers and it's more like a male shower.

  • i've never heard of it. if it was at someone's house and we're getting diapers out of the deal, fine. if it's a big night out, like a bachelor party - no way. that is ridculous.

  • My borther had one at the same time we had a girly baby shower for SIL so it gave the guys something to do. It was more of a BBQ and beer thing.

DH will be having a "Pamper Party", as we call, them around Halloween.

  • My hubby is doing this!! Well....He is having a poker night at our house.....The guys gotta bring diapers and a $$ buy-in (whatever that is)....I think its a great idea.. Smile
  • I have heard about it, but I think it is kinda silly.  I am all for my DH going out with some friends if he wants, but to call it a dadchelor party seems dumb.

  • I think its cute (although I dont think DH would accept diapers in public) to do at home in the "man-cave" aka the garage with the football game on the big screen (got to man it up!!)

This. I would not be okay with a bachelor like party.

This is what they are around here too.
We did one for DH. His brother threw it. They bought a keg and watched sports and we didn't buy diapers for 8 months :)

  • I love this idea! I want to do something for H and his friends. Maybe a diaper party and BYOB to a party at our house. I feel like there's no need to do favors and decorate for men, so pool(billiards), football, and food should do. I just want to make sure we don't seem too greedy having two shower-type parties. Although my shower is just my female co-workers so I think we'll be fine.

  • My SIL who is planning one of my showers asked if MH would want to have a "Dude Shower" while we were at the girls' shower.  She thought her bf would like to plan it for MH and the guys could go bowling or play pool and they could bring "man gifts," which she specified as gifts the guys can put together and such.  I thought this was fine, because most of the guys in the family would travel with their women to be in town for the shower, so they might as well go hang out together somewhere.  Because Lord knows MH has no desire to watch me open presents and play silly games with his aunts.  I don't know if that means that couples are expecting to do two gifts now that I think about it?  But my guess is the guys won't bring gifts and they'll just hang out and have fun.
