March 2012 Moms

Got a job! You won't believe the perk...

They pay is good, the hours are minimal, but just enough to make what I need!  I'll be teaching preschool (3's) 2 half days a week.  And get this:  She said "If you want to bring Baby with you after your 6 weeks, that's fine."  What?  Seriously? Whoa!  I almost canceled this interview yesterday because I felt bad about looking for a job and needing maternity leave in 6 months.  Glad I didn't! So, I'll be gainfully employed, but still have plenty of free time, and I'll be working in a preggo/new mom friendly environment.

  • That's great for you, but (Debbie Downer alert) how will that actually work? As a mom of a kid in preschool, I would pull my kid out if his teacher had her attention diverted by taking care of her baby all day. Did they mean that you could enroll your baby in their infant room?

First of all, that's great that they are offering that! But, I'm going to have to agree with this. I had to bring DD to work with me a few times at various ages, and it was hard to get work done every single time. She wasn't a high maintenance baby, either. And, I have a desk job and don't have to deal with customers or anything. But, she needed to eat or needed a diaper change or just wanted to be held. However, in saying that, I still think that's great that they are so flexible and willing to work with you Big Smile

  • I have no clue, and if it doesn't work out I'm ok with that.  I don't mind finding care for LO 2 days a week for 4 hours.  I imagine I'll wear baby in a Moby part of the time.  Other than that, she said she had her infant with her when she ran a daycare out of her home (20 years ago), so maybe she's got something in mind.

That is fairly common as there would be children of multiple ages. I wonder how it would work in your situation though.

Seriously awesome though! Wish I had an opportunity like that around here! I would jump at that.

  • Yes whoo hoo that's great.  I've never brought my baby to work with me, but my job is pretty kid friendly since the owner has like 6 grand kids and the moms (one D and one DIL) work for him as a separate company so I have brought my 6 y/o who when I started working here was 3 so I liked that option if she was sick and both DH and I had to work or off from school or something.

Score for not canceling and getting the best job perk yet.
