Paint for wall mural?

Hey ladies! We are planning on doing a penguin themed nursery. I want to paint an arctic mural on the walls and was wondering what type of paint would be best? I've heard everything for normal wall paint to acrylic paint to craft paint. We are on a budget so Im thinking wall paint would get expensive really fast since well need several different colors. What do you ladies think?

    You could always get the samplers of real paint and they aren't that expensive.  I painted trees and the back of little red riding hood in my daughters closet and I used craft paint for the majority of it and it looks good.  So that is also an option.

    Have you looked at custom decals too? I priced them out for one room and it came out to the same as the paint. There are lots of Etsy sellers that do this, and a few commercial online ones that have good prices. If you're free handing it, I'd go with Liquitex Basic Acrylics, they're fairly simple and inexpensive to use, and come in larger tubes. If you are taping off any parts of the mural, you'll want Frog tape and "paint" the seams with Matte Medium to stop bleeding (yes, frog tape does this, but not enough for me).

    I would not use acrylic.  It's got texture and it dries like plastic.  It will be a nightmare to get off.   Wall paint doesn't have to be expensive considering that you'll need only small amounts of a lot of colours.  You can get the $5 sample jars that will likely do you well for most of your colours and a small tin for the white you'll need tons of.

    It dries like plastic because acrylic paint is made from a plastic polymer.  And, what is this texture you are talking of?  Lastly, acrylic is not that hard to paint over--especially if you use a good wall paint when you finally are done with the mural.

    ETA:  I am doing a mural and I am doing a combination of wall paint and acrylic paint.  Some of the acrylic will be liquitex, some will be craft paint.  It just depends.  I am an artist and have a ton of different brands, which I will use.  But, there are some larger areas (I am doing a landscape scene with cars/trucks/ vehicles), so I will most likely get small wall paint--just for budget reasons.
