C-sections

girdle/abdominal support type?

Just scheduled my c-section for the 10th of November. I have been told that getting a support girdle or something similar for the first few weeks after (and even in the hospital) is a huge relief because of the abdominal support it gives. So, Should I go for something that is for ?c-sections? or do you think it would be alright to go with a spanx type shaper with abdominal support. I ideally would love something with straps so that I don?t have to worry about the higher waist band rolling down, etc. Any suggestions?

Re: girdle/abdominal support type?

  • DH got me an ab wrap from Gold's Gym. It worked great. I think as long as your girdle/wrap is supporting you properly, it doesn't absolutely need to be specially geared or advertised towards Csection recovery.

  • I tried the one at the hospital and hated it. It felt like it was squishing my incision together, or the staples, and was super uncomfortable. I didn't use it. I had ordered the Abdomend but it didn't arrive until I returned from the hospital. It was a lot better because of the extra strap right across the incision line. My ab muscles were sore for about a week, but not nearly as bad as some other people have it (apparently). I only used the support for a few nights, though maybe I should try it again. Supposedly it helps with the extra belly the c/s leaves you with.

Also, maybe my experience is different because the incision is so low. It's starting to sound like others' incisions aren't as low as mine? Mine is under my pubic hair line, soooo much lower than I ever imagined. Once the hair down there grows back, I don't think I'll even be able to find it.

  • I never used any support bands and didn't have the need to. Maybe I am just weird, but I was too exhausted and to sore to be bothered with them.

  • I'm just using the one from the hospital, its working pretty good for me. Though I went without wearing it yesterday and felt pretty good most of the day.
