Re: Is anyone a speech therapist??

  • I am not a ST, so I can only speak as a mom to a deaf kiddo who herself gets 2 hrs of ST with my DD a week...not much to stand on, but here are my cursory thoughts.  First, mmm and grrr are vibrating sounds that you can "hear" in your head, KWIM?  I would look into a hearing check to rule out any trouble there.  Second, I would see if your area EI has a speech therapist who can take a look at DS and see if a professional opinion sheds some light.  EI was wonderful for that before we aged out of the program.  Finally, some kiddos are just late to the talking bandwagon and have no problems at all.  This totally could be the case, but a hearing test (noninvasive and easy if you get an audiologist who works with kids) and ST evaluation will get you on track if he does need services.

  • DS is the same way.  He JUST started babbling this week, babababa.  However, he has been babbling for maybe 6 months as long as a finger is in his mouth.  I think it's because they make noise while chewing/mouthing the finger.  I don't think it's true babbling.

We're in ST now and she has us work on a lot of oral motor skills.

To my boys:  I will love you for you Not for what you have done or what you will become I will love you for you I will give you the love The love that you never knew
