Pampered Pregnancy Program? - score!

I have no idea how common this is since this is my first pregnancy.  I filled out the paperwork to deliver at the hospital I selected, and I got this packet about a free Pampered Pregnancy Program.  I get a free spa service (manicure, pedicure or massage), a discount on childbirth classes, my husband gets a free "Hero" meal while we're in the hospital, a $10 gift certificate to the hospital gift shop, free lactation consultation, and a "special gift" from some women and children's group.  Of course, again, I don't know how much of this stuff is just standard anyway, but I am all about free stuff, and I'm pretty excited about getting a free massage and a discount on childbirth classes.

  • Check with your insurance, if the childbirth classes are in any way lamaze related, you may be able to turn it in to your insurance and get them totally free.  We only did one day of he he hoo hoos out of 12 classes and I was able to turn in paperwork and get a total refund from BCBS.

Oooooh, nice tip.  I would love to be able to do the 12 week Natural Childbirth classes, but they are $200 as opposed to the $75 5 week course.  If insurance covers the $200 one, I'm signing up!

  • A local hospital (that I will not be having my baby at) also offers a free massage.  I can't believe how tempting I find this to be.
  • that's really awesome Cho!

one thing that i just have to put out there though...the whole hospital birthing industry makes me sick.  they make soooo much money off births nowadays, just because their standard procedures include so many interventions that the insurance companies are willing to pay for, that they "give back" (or rather, incentivise-you) all of these freebies?!

really, who needs it?  i would rather forgo the gift package and have a healthy, natural, cascading-intervention-free birth.

    just my rant.
