no sympathy for others

This is horrible of me, but I really have no sympathy for people who are whining about ailments right now (non-pregnant people). One of my students kept laying his head on his desk while I was standing all hour, reviewing them for a test. I ended up telling him to either pick his head up or go sit in the office. He looked a little sick, but I didn't care. I'm usually extremely sympathetic, but not lately. I'm 38 weeks pregnant, feet are swollen, having mild contractions, peeing myself, and all around uncomfortable. If I can STAND for an hour, you can lift your head up off your desk and listen to me while I try to help you. This is just one example of many that I have. OK, vent over.

  • I feel the same way. I am a nanny and I have heard the kids complaining that their back hurts or some other small ailment. I want to laugh and tell them they have no idea.

  • I know what you mean; poor DH gets absolutely no sympathy from me for anything.  He simply stated the other day that his legs were a little sore from working out and I almost bit his head off about every ailment I have had for the past nine months.  I did recognize that I was a bit crazy and apologized but he hasn't mentioned any other aches and pains to me since.

  • Can't say that I blame you. DH told me he felt fat and swollen the other day. Sorry about it but I'm sure it doesn't really compete with what I'm dealing with.
  • DH: My head hurts....

    Me: Can you take excedrine?

DH: I suppose, but we don't have any...

Me: Well I suggest you go get some, because you're making my head hurt and I can't take any....and if you continue to make my head hurt this isn't going to be a pretty night.

Thank you for posting this!! I work in an ER and I swear people come in for the STUPIDEST reasons. For example, we had a patient check in this morning who said, "Hi, my throat started hurting this morning so I would like to be seen." Me: "You want to check into the emergency room for a sore throat..?" or "Hi, I need to check into the ER because my back has been hurting since last night." MY BACK HAS BEEN HURTING FOR MONTHS!!

Its really not good, I need to stop working STAT lol.

I worked in medical records at our local hospital during the summer in high school and college, and some of the things people came to the ER for were outrageous. I think most of the cases were people who didn't have to pay for the visit, so they didn't care.

  • HAHA i hear you! I work in the medical field and its rough because you try to have sympathy for the patients at all time because they are here at the hospital sick.. but then you get those patients that are rude and just lazy... and i had a 300lb man tell me i had to physically lift him to get the picture I needed... i said Sir there will be no lifting for me because im Pregnant.. and he started mocking me " Oh im pregnant i can't lift anyone " and he even thru in a fake cry... and i then asked him if he was always such a southern peach... haha i think i handled it alot better then it could have went especially with how ignorant of a person he was... but we have made it ladies!! If we go into b*tch mode these last few weeks it should be okay because it has been a fun ride but we are excited to get off and meet our little angels!!!! Hang in there!!!

  • I am right there with you...I think I may be the psycho hoes beast teacher from Hell today.  I have no patience or sympathy for any of my students.  I find myself rolling my eyes and giving them the stank eye more then necessary.  I have to keep reminding myself that it isn't their fault that I feel this way.  I just can't wait until I don't have to teach for 6 weeks!

Me too! One of my biggest pet peeves is students who will not come in before or after class or school to get help. This is for students who are here super early and are doing nothing while they wait for school to start. Anyway, one of those students came up to me and said "I didn't do your work, cause I didn't understand it". I seriously rolled my eyes at her, because I know she was in another teacher's room this morning talking with friends, when she could have been getting help. I have no patience whatsoever.

This.  I'm a supply teacher, but I've only gotten called in once this year (well, school's only been going for 2 weeks and 2 days so far) and it was for a half day at the school across the street.  I didn't even have to do a lesson, just supervise students and help them with their work, and I was *exhausted* after.  DH and I decided I better not take any full day jobs; I just can't handle it!
