Pedi recommends organic milk?
This has nothing to do with the post below but at our 12 month check up today the Pedi said she recommends organic wcm for LO. I assumed it was because hormones. Thoughts? Anyone else switching to organic milk?

Although Joy doesn't drink milk yet, we switched to organic a couple of months ago.
Pesticides can be found in conventional cow feed and to be certified organic, the cows must eat organic feed so they don't consume pesticides at all. They cannot be given rBGH and are required to be in a pasture for most of the year.
Conventional milk isn't the devil and I'll never turn down a glass just because it isn't organic, but since we go through a lot of milk we've decided that organic is the way to go for our family.
Eli is on organic milk as well. I don't drink milk but I know when I buy some for cooking or cereal for DH that milk freaking expires fast. I about died of happiness when I bought organic milk last week and the expiration date is 10/31/11. Holy cow. I mean, it won't last nearly that long but it is an added bonus.
Not all organic milk has crazy long expiration dates. Horizon, for example, only ultrapasturizes their half gallon sizes. The gallon sizes expire like normal.
Also, depending on where you live/shop, much of that added bonus shelf life could go to waste sitting in the grocery store. We're currently living in small-town-ohio, and my half gallon of ultrapasturized still expired a week after I bought it. Guess there isn't much of an organic demand there.
Moral of the story: check the dates!
i second that. i was at our store the other day buying chicken broth, and ALL of them had expired in july. eeeewwwww
I just bought Horizons Organic Milk for my LO and it says that it's best used within 7 days after opening. So even though it doesn't expire until 10/30, once it's opened it expires pretty quickly.
I don't think there's a reason to NOT buy organic. (Aside from the price difference, which you can still help)
Costco has AWESOME organic WCM. It has a great shelf life and tastes really good (I find a small taste difference in different companies' milk).
Also Trader Joe's has good prices on mostly everything, and they have a lot of organic products in general.
I don't ever buy Horizon though. Something about it being not as good quality, I don't know. My mom is a health freak-nut and told me not to, so I don't.
But yeah. Organic = good. No hesitation needed.
As for brands, it does not matter which brand you buy. Just make sure that it has the "USDA Organic" seal on it.
As for brands, I find that the store-brand organic brand does sometimes taste a bit better than Horizon, but we like them all.
Our Pedi didn't recommend it, but we've given DD1 organic milk since she started drinking it. DH prefers it as well. Recently though we switched to milk from a local dairy - it's not certified organic, but it's hormone free and cheaper. $5/gallon instead of $3.50/half gallon.
I don't drink milk, just my daughter and my my husband. So when I start milk next month I'm planning on organic. I'll use coupons since I don't care about the brand.
I thought horizon milk was caught doing something shady?
