Q for the moms that have had 2 vaginal deliveries

Hi ladies, I have a question. This is for moms who already have had two vaginal deliveries. With my first I was 1 cm and 80% effaced when first checked at 36/37 weeks. With this one at the same amount of time, nothing! So I guess my question is, do second pregnancies tend to wait a little longer before showing progress or does it make a difference? (If that makes any sense.)

I had pre-term labor with DD1 (they stopped it and she was born at 39w2d), so I was 3-4 cm from 33 weeks, until they augmented my labor at 39 weeks for being 6 cm...

With DD2, I was 2 cm at 38w3d. I went into labor that night and had her the next day.

I "dropped" sooner, and progressed faster with each pregnancy.

With #1 at 38 weeks my bp was high and I was induced. I was 2-3cm at my appt that day which was the first time I was checked. With #2 I started contracting a lot around 34 weeks so they checked me and I was 2cm already. But I stayed that way until I went into labor at 39 weeks.

I don't think there is a trend.

With my first pregnancy I had cervical issues the whole time (shortening, funneling). I was never "checked" and ended up having pPROM at 35w3d and delivering 12 hours later at 35w4d.

With my DS I was more monitored and my OB checked me earlyish at 35 weeks and I was already 3cm dilated and 80% effaced. At 39 weeks I was 6cm dilated and 90% effaced and still not in labor. I was induced 4 days later because I lived far away from the hospital and they were worried that if my water broke at home I might not make it (good thing too because my son was born IN A HURRY).

So I have no idea if I was more than 3cm and 80% at 35 weeks with my first baby. I just know that my water happened to break "out of the blue" so I was probably dilated at least a little bit.

I had DS at 37w3d. I was checked at 36w6d and I was 1-2cm and 50% effaced (if my memory serves me well!). I ended up going into labor 3 days later.

I had DD at 38w3d. I was checked at 37w6d and was also 1-2cm and about 50% effaced. I went into labor 3 days later.

I ended up having a longer labor with DD (19 hours from start to finish vs 12 with DS).

I don't think there is any rhyme or reason and there is no way to predict what will happen!

DD1..I had first internal at 37 weeks. 2cm, 60% effaced. Stayed that way until labor. Went into labor at 40 weeks exactly.

DD2..first internal at 35 weeks..2cm and 50%. 37 weeks...3cm cm and 75%. 38 weeks 3-4cm and 75%. Went into labor at 39w4d.

So much more progress but obviously didn't mean much since I still walked around 3cm for almost 3 weeks lol!

DD was born 9 days early and I was 2cm and 70/80% for a while. With DS I was 2cm FOREVER and she never told me effaced but he was born 7 days late, I had to be induced he was in no hurry to come out! LOL I had pitocin for almost 12 hrs before he was actually born.

I'm sure it totally depends on the situation. FWIW, I was checked a few days before going into labor with DD1 (which happened at 40 weeks exactly), and wasn't dilated at all. I didn't bother getting checked with DD2 since I don't think it means anything. I went into labor with her at 39w3d.

With DD (1st LO) I had her 14 days early. With DS (2nd LO) he came 19 days early. I had just had my dr appt 4 days before he came and I was 1 cm and not even 50% effaced. I thought it would be awhile until he showed up but sure enough 19 days early and only 5 hours total labor there he was. DD (1st LO) was 31 hours of bad back labor.

I dilated the same amount at the same time. With my first, he was born 16 days early after going into labor spontanously. I was 5cm dilated at 18 days before his due date.

With my second, she was born 14 days early via induction. I was 6cm that day, and my doc didn't feel comfortable letting me go any longer.

Same thing was going on with my third. I was 6cm dilated 10 days early (a little slower), but she was breech so I had a c/s.

Both of my pregnancies went to 41 weeks 2 days. I was induced with BOTH of these stubborn little girls. My dates were exact too because I was charting for both and I had early dating ultrasounds.

I had almost no progress with either one of them until check in day for induction. =(
