Pregnant after IF

Can I hear some positive IVF experiences, please?

Hi. I'm a drop-in from 3T.  Tomorrow at 8:30am my wife and I go for our first IVF retrieval. I'm nervous, but mostly excited and Nicole told me today that she "can't wait to get these eggs out!" Of course, if I was carrying two softballs in my "belly" I'd be annoyed too! I've been lurking on the Infertility board and read too many failed IVF stories. Can someone please tell me this might work?? I need to hear that is does and can happen.  Thanks!

  • My fresh IVF cycle was not successful, but my first frozen transfer was so I only had to do the injections once. Plus, I still have two frozen embryos so I'm hoping to get a sibling for this LO in another couple years. Lots of people have success their first cycle. Stay positive! Good luck!

  • So far so good for me! My betas have come back nice and high. We have our ultrasound on Thursday to see if we're having 1 or 2! This was our first IVF and hopefully our last. We will probably do 1or 2 FET in the future depending on how things work out now.
I was also fortunate to not have a terrible time either with the stimms or the recovery. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't a picnic, but all in all, it wasn't that bad. I would psych myself out about it not working, etc, and then DH would remind me that there were still plenty of people for which it did work--why couldn't we just as easily be one of them?
Good luck tomorrow for your ER! And remember, your wife needs to drink TONS of gatorade or V8 and eat high sodium foods like chicken noodle soup!

  •  It happens! IVF worked for us on the first try (twins on the way). Plus we still have frozen embryos if need be.

I was pretty sore for a few days after the retrieval, and (you might not want to tell her this now) my ovaries stayed that big for a long time after. Just be ready for her to still feel uncomfortable.

    Other than that, good luck!

  • After 2 failed IUIs, our 1st IVF cycle worked for us ! I had over 30 follies that were measurable but they were only able to retrieve 12 mature eggs. Of those 12, only 5 fertilized. We did a 3dt of 2 embryos (1 embie died off before day 3 & the other 2 didn't make it to freeze). I know it's hard but try not to get discouraged with the #'s. It's all about QUALITY, not QUANTITY. Smile Good luck !!!

  • It worked for my hubby and I!  I am 20 weeks pregnant today.  Good luck to you and your wife.  IVF is a wonderful thing.  Just remember to pamper her like crazy!  It's a difficult process.

  • I got pregnant every IVF cycle I ever did. 2 chemicals, 2 sets of twins- 8 yr olds and a loss at 22 weeks, and currently 12 weeks now.
  • I got KU with the trips (2 embies) on my second IVF attempt.  My first attempt was an unfortunate series of events that was really rare.  I also previously went through 4 failed IUI + meds cycles.

GL to you and your DW!

  • Our first cycle didn't work, but IVF #2 did. I had 22 measurable follicles and we got 9 mature eggs, and only 5 fertilized. But on day 5 we still had 4 gorgeous embryos. We transferred 1 on day 6 and it stuck. I agree with quality over quantity. If you don't get as many as you expect, do not give up hope! I would have never expected that with 8 total embryos from 2 cycles, I'd be pregnant with 3 in the freezer!
