Re: WDYT of Christian?

  • I very strongly dislike it.  To me it's like if someone named their child Jewish or Muslim.

  • While I agree in principle with the previous poster, there are so many other less controversial choices out there.

    I guess I'd prefer Christopher.

  • I like the name and the meaning, but definitely don't recommend it for anyone other than well.... a Christian.

  • Eh...don't love it. Although I don't mind the religion part, I just don't really like the name.

  • I like it. It's my cousin's name, and, appropriately, my priest's name.

  • It's my son's 2nd middle name. Its a family name with historical significance. So I like it.
  • I like it quite a bit. However, I don't think I'm religious enough to use it.

But my bff's jerk of an abusive ex is named Christian, so I guess you don't have to believe in God and being a good person to use the name...

  • HATE HATE HATE it. As someone who was raised Catholic and is no longer religious, I would be extremely angry if I had a religious name. That's just putting a giant burden on your kid.

Also agree with the PP, you wouldn't name your kid Jewish, Muslim, Catholic, Protestant, why Christian?

  • I think The Pilgrim's Progress. It worked well as the name in a Christian allegory but I don't care for it as a given name in real life.

  • I like it, but I had a very good friend named Christian.  He was not particularly religious and his name never bothered him.
