Pre-School and Daycare

DD's school is having an open house tonight.

What to expect?  It's a potluck for all preschoolers and their family.  Each classroom will also be open for an "open house".  Will the teachers talk to us about our children individually, or will it be general conversations?  I really want a one-on-one with the teacher to find out how my DD is doing.  I ask questions here and there when I am dropping her off, but I am a detailed person who would drive somebody crazy  with questions (according to DH...lol), so I am trying not to be a pest.  I just feel like I am not receiving enough feedback about DD.  I need to know details such as.....is she eating, does she willingly participate, does she have any friends yet, how is she doing with sharing, does she have any behavior issues, etc...

  • As a teacher, I would think if you have specific questions and want a one-on-one with the teacher I would schedule a conference.  I would think that tonight would be a time for your DD to show off her classroom and her work she's done so far this year.  If everyone tried to have a conference with the teacher tonight then you'd all be there forever.

  • I totally agree- open house is not the time/place for a conference. It is completely reasonable for you to set up a time for a conference though. Have fun!
  • I teach elementary school and Open House is mostly for you to take a look around the classroom, look in child's books/desks/folders, etc. If you really have specific questions or concerns, ask the teacher if you can set up a conference. Other parents are there too and don't want you taking up all of the teacher's time.
