So I was in Babies R Us the other day buying my Preggle pillow, when a new mom was shopping on the same aisle getting bottles and stuff. Can't remember how, but we struck up a convo about these pillows. She started telling me about a baby expo coming up in about a month, and how I could get this pillow for about half off if I waited until the expo. I told her thanks for the advice, but I was an hour away from my city I work in, and right now I'm working 10 hours away from home, so I had gone out of my way to stop at this Babies R Us and get this specific pillow as I was heading back down to my job. When I told her I read about the pillows online and told her I knew which one I specifically wanted, she STILL tried to talk me out of spending $50 on this pillow b/c it was "way overpriced" and once baby gets here I'll have to start cutting back on spending, clipping coupons, and saving every dollar I can. She was even debating going to Target b/c their bottles were like 80 cents cheaper than they were there.
I understand that when baby gets here our budget will have to be cut back, but if a $50 pillow can bring me good sleep for 9 months, then I think that's a pretty good investment!! And who is she to try to tell me how to spend my hard earned money?! Maybe her financial situation is a little different than mine, but $50 isn't gonna break the bank for us. It just made me mad b/c I had gone out of my way for this pillow and I wanted to tell her flat out, "Look, I went out of my way to get this, I'm not leaving without a pillow so thanks, but no thanks."
Has anyone else ran into women like this?! If so, how do you deal or what do you say to them?! Thanks ladies!!
Re: Any "unwanted" pregnancy advice yet?
What pillow did you get?
So far no but we also haven't really told anyone.
This post was NOT about what I thought it would be, based on the title lol
I haven't gotten any of that type of advice yet, just a nauseating amount of "oh, you think you're tired now..." that kind of unhelpful crap.
CRAFTY ME
my read shelf:
I hate to be told what to do. So when my sis told me that the only thing I absolutely must have is the Britax car seat, I got annoyed. She kept saying, it is the safest, and worth every penny. While she may be right, I will do my own research, thank you.
Also she went on and on about breast feeding and how our father has asthma, so it is sooooooo important to BF for the first year. I told her that I want to BF, but I am not going to equate formula feeding with meaning my baby will get asthma. Who knows if I will be able to EBF, i don't want to put that pressure on myself.
My mom breast feed and I have asthma.. Asthma is hereditary. If you have ashma or your husband your baby has a 25% chance of getting it. If you both do the baby has a 50% chance. My great grandmother had it and luckily I was the only one to get it.
Thanks, maybe I will throw that info at her :-). She thinks that because we were both BF, and we didn't get asthma, that is the reason. If only everything were that simple.
I get approached a lot in Babies R Us when buying preggie pops. "Are you sick?" "Are you eating crackers?" "Maybe because you are so skinny you have bad morning sickness."
Ugg--it's bad enough feeling yucky, but people sometimes need to back off. Besides that, I've got a lot of cranky hormones lately and roll my eyes lot at people (which is probably better than me spouting off at them).
Nothing like this but since I'm expecting #2 and DS is only 10 months old, I'm getting LOTS of people telling me how busy I'm going to be... It's like "REALLY???" that's not something I thought about!!! OMG, I'm SO sick of people telling me how things will be, it's just unnecessary, I feel like yelling "leave me alone!!!"
Hope you don't get anymore unwanted/unnecessary advice!
I haven't yet but...my in-laws pretty much think they know all so I'm pretty sure I'll be posting something like this sooner rather than later!!
Smile and walk away or just pretend you're listening!!! lol
I bought the Preggle pillow, it's made specifically by Babies R Us, but from the same people that make the Snoogle I believe. It's really awesome so far, and definitely worth the $50!!
Maybe it's just something about the other customers that Babies R Us attracts, lol!! Yeah, my MIL tried telling me one time what SPECIFIC kinds of crackers I need to eat (i.e. saltines), but I don't really care for saltines, and Ritz w/peanut butter are doing the trick so far, so why eat something I've never enjoyed for 26 years just b/c I'm pregnant now?
