Thinking about purchasing this book on my Kindle. Thoughts on this book? Our pediatrician does not recommend putting our baby on a sleep schedule until about 3 months and I agree with her so would this book be useless before that time? Thanks!
I have the book and am currently reading it so I haven't finished it yet. BUT I like it so far! It's a "minimal tears" approach, which I like better than the cry it out method. The first few chapters are dedicated to explaining her method and how she came up with it and the rest are broken down into age groups from newborn to 5 years old. Her methods are really geared more towards 6 mos + , but she recommends certain things for newborns to 5 mos to help get them geared towards getting them to put themselves to sleep.
So far it feels like she is giving you tips on how to teach your child to put themselves to sleep- since babies wake up a lot during the night for no real reason sometimes. I can't say whether or not it works yet because I just got the book and my LO is only a month old.
This book is great, and I wish I had read it sooner than I did. I didn't read it until my DD1 was about 10-11 months and we had already created some terrible sleep habits. We used the Sleep Lady Shuffle to teach her to fall asleep on her own and it was pure magic.
The early chapters just give some guidance about newborn sleep cycles and what you can do from the beginning to start establishing good sleep habits. She does not advocate sleep training until 6 months (4 at the absolute earliest) but does offer some ideas for laying good sleep groundwork in the first several months. Worth the read to me!

I agree, fantastic book! I would prefer to avoid CIO altogether, which is why I got, and she's got a great approach that doesn't involve it and it seems to be working for my LO.

I think it has been useful for us and she doesn't advocate for a "real" schedule that early either. She does recommend a bedtime of 10-11PM at some point which we ignored b/c LO was ready for bed usu around 7-8PM. I think she suggests lots of ways to encourage good sleep habits in the newborn/infant stage with the ultimate goal of a baby that falls asleep on his/her own and can put himself back to sleep. We've had minimal fussiness at bedtime and have tried to use her suggestions for encouraging good sleep habits. LO naps in his crib 3x day for >=1 hr each and sleeps overnight in his crib as well.

We are using this book too. Both my sisters used it with great success. The tricky part is no motion sleep, since everyone tells me "she will sleep in the car" and I'm like, "I don't want her to!" My MIL also gets disappointed b/c she wants to rock her to sleep then hold her for her nap. It all makes sense....but it's a different way of thinking for a lot of people. Thankfully my sisters paved the way for my parents, so they are 100% on board with it (very helpful when they watch my nieces overnight).
