I was told a long time ago that since my mom had a bad reaction to the flu shot, that I shouldn't get one. I told my doctor and she said I should still get one, my DH should, too. Flu during pregnancy can land us in the hospital, I'm not taking any chances. My office is doing a clinic in a few weeks, I'll get mine done then.

Yes, you can and should get a flu shot. A clinic will definitely give it to you, as will any place like CVS, Walgreens or Rite Aid. But make sure you get the shot, and not the nasal spray. The shot contains deactivated virus, and the nasal mist contains live virus, which can actually make you sick when you have a poor immune system. When you're pregnant, your immune system is compromised, so if you do end up getting the flu, you run the risk of getting a REALLY bad case of it. A couple of years ago, a friend of mine's sister died of the flu when she was 32 weeks pregnant. It was only about 2 days between the time when she started to feel sick and when she died in the hospital, it just hit her so hard and so quick there was nothing they could do.
I have never had one and I don't intend to start now. I'm very allergic to many different drugs - including neosporin, go figure - so I try to avoid any type of medication at almost any cost. To me the threat of a potential anaphylactic shock is much worse than having to be hospitalized for the flu.

Same here. I have had it once and ended up in hospital. Dr believes It was a reaction to the eggs in it. So I can't have it. I have sever asthma and was instructed to stear clear of that as well as benadryl.

Dr's seem to think a lot of people are allergic to the egg part of the shot. I can't imagine what that reaction was like, how awful, I don't think people without allergies can fathom how scary it really is. I have friends telling me all the time to get the shot and I just won't do it.
I had heard that it was wise to get a flu shot while pregnant. Pregnant women can't take a lot of medications, so if they get hit with the flu, it would be a lot worse since you can't get much relief. Also, it protects your baby as well. I asked my OB about it at my appointment yesterday and she said they had the shot in the office, and gave it to me right then and there. It was a "dead" virus, so it will not make you sick. Painless, and now I don't have to worry about it anymore

You would think they would expirement with making it with something else. I know several people with that allergy. DH has never had it either but "knock on wood" has never had the flu either. I may encourage him to get it this year since I can't
I've had two flu shots in my life. The first while I was preg with my DD and I got SO SICK! The second a couple years ago while not pregnant and had no reaction. They asked me last week if I wanted the shot and I said no and they didn't try to convince me to change my mind. I have never had the flu so bad as I did while pregnant and I had the shot so I have no intention of getting one this time around.
the right one will always make you feel like you are the most loved person in the world
Will be getting one at my OB's office after first tri. They don't like giving it in first tri because if something goes wrong with the pregnancy they don't want mom to feel like it was something to do with the choice of getting a flu shot (or that's the way my previous OB explained it).
I have never had a flu shot and never will, but I opt out of all vaccines for myself (ethical reasons). I understand that this is not the norm and not for everyone. If you do want the shot, do your research and understand the implications of getting the shot or not getting the shot. It is a decision you need to make for yourself.
