I need some opinions! Our builder asked us a few things that we need to decide....
1. Do we have him plant our grass this year (next few wks) or wait until next year when we do all of our landscaping? I hear fall is a good time to plant, but don't have any experience with that.
2. Do we do an asphalt driveway now, or wait a year and do a concrete one? For concrete, the ground has to settle a year before they do it and we just dont have the extra money right now to do concrete-but next year we would.
So....what would you do?
Re: WWYD-house related
Are you going to have a sprinkler system? Not sure if that would be a factor. I guess it depends if you want the lawn established by the time spring rolls around. Are they planting or doing sod?
As far as landscaping, people tell me that plants are really cheap in the fall because they are on deep discount.
Not sure about the driveway either..
Good luck!

By plant grass, do you mean lay down seeds or sod? I would lay down seeds now, if it doesn't take you can do it again in the spring. If you don't have grass in the spring when the snow melts, it will be a muddy mess and you could risk some of your lawn washing away.
I would say, if this is your forever house, concrete. The life span of concrete is 3Xs the life span of asphalt and you don't need to seal it ever couple of years like with asphalt. It is more $ up front, but will save you $$ over the life of the driveway. Plus time is ticking on the asphalt, almost time for the plants to stop producing it.
Def concrete. Without a doubt. I would seed now too, I imagine you will need to re-seed patchy areas anyway. Unless you are sodding, then I imagine it wouldn't matter? Not sure though.
But I would definitely do the concrete! Good Luck with whatever you decide!
This exactly!
Yup.
Well, it is really really $$$...that keeps asphalt the number 1 choice . It does still need to be sealed I think.....every few years. It will be slick when snow/ice is on it. You need a really good base, and very thick concrete to make it less likely to crack. Re-bar should be used to help the stability of it.
I would seed this fall, you will be amazed at what comes up in the spring!
