Anyone elses LO move around the crib at night

DD has been sleeping on her stomach ever since she started rolling over.  She started creeping towards the head of the crib until she had her head on the rails.  It seems like she likes being close to the sides.   It makes me want to put her bumpers in (we have breathable ones in now) except when she gets in the corner I'd worry with her face being so close.  We pull her back to the middle when she starts squirming because she can't move anymore, but she ends up right back there.

Last night, we didn't go in & move her much at all & she ended up scooting until she was in it horizontally, then again facing the foot of the crib! I've watched how she does it, she pulls her knees under her putting her butt up in the air, which then scoots her forward.  But what I find weird is when she is playing on the floor she doesn't move that like that at all!

  • DD sleeps on her back still but somehow manages to move all around her crib at night.  We have the breathable bumpers in because she does have a tendency to end up in a corner with her face against the side.   From what I've heard its pretty normal when they're young, the crib seems really big to them so they are more comfortable in the corner.

  • LO is in a new spot, facing a new direction every time I peek in at her. We have breathable bumpers because I know without them her little legs would get stuck.

  • My daughter does the same thing!  I thought about a bumper but it doesn't seem to bother her that she get's all squished into the side of the crib, or flips herself around to face the other direction and I would worry to much with a bumper (even if it's breathable).  So I just let her scoot herself around.  She doesn't do it while playing either, it's frustrating, I know she can move around but she hasn't put two and two together yet.  Although soon I'll be biting my tongue wishing she would just stay in one place :-)

  • My little guy is constantly moving around in his crib.  I lay him down on his back and he sleeps there for about 10 minutes.  Then he rolls onto his side but by morning he is on the opposite end of the crib with his head in the opposite direction of how I originally placed him.  I tell each morning that he's doing the hokey pokey in his crib and he laughs.  He thinks its so funny.

  • Yes, DD does gymnastics in her sleep.  DD1 at the age of 2 still moves around a lot!  They're both horrible sleepers and I just wished they would sleep w/ little movement b/c I'm pretty sure it would be more sound for all of us!

  • DS breakdance's around his crib every night.  We also have the breatheable bumpers to keep his limbs from getting stuck in the rungs.  I wouldn't worry about her bumping into the sides.  She is not strong enough to hurt herself.  Here is a quote regarding it from Health Canada:

"It must also be noted that, for the most part, infants do not sustain major injuries from banging their heads against the sides of their cribs because they are incapable of generating enough force to seriously injure themselves through head banging. The frontal bone, which is the part of the head most frequently struck during crib head banging, is the thickest bone in the body and therefore, is capable of absorbing the shock associated with this type of behaviour."

Her movement at night is a critical part of her gross motor skill development.  Don't try to limit it.  She is very safe in her crib:)

  • All the time. DS thinks the crib is a nighttime amusement park.

  • Yep, when I put DS down the other night his head was toward the top of his crib and he was on his back. He immediately rolled to his side, and then when I went to get him in the morning he had somehow managed to totally rotate so his head was facing the foot of his crib and he had rolled to his other side. We don't have a bumper in right now but I'm thinking I need to get one soon because I've found him smashing his head into the bars or smacking/kicking the bars and I'm just waiting for him to hurt himself or get stuck! Ditto though about him not moving like this on the floor!

  • DS likes to turn himself sideways. It's always fun when he wakes up in the middle of the night, because you usually have to play "find the baby in the crib" in the dark.

  • Yes! And it's driving me crazy! When I lay my DD down at night I put her at the foot of the crib because I know she will be scooting her way up to the top. Once she hits the head of the crib she gets mad and cries so I have to go in there and scoot her back down to the bottom. We play this game all night long. I keep telling myself to just leave her and maybe she will either learn to like having her head smashed in the bars Stick out tongue or just not do it anymore. So far I cave every time. She looks so sad all smashed in the corner of her crib. Will this ever end??

  • DD is swaddled and still manages to move around the crib.  She gets herself all the way to the bottom some nights.  I wouldn't worry about it. I know once we stop swaddling she'll be everywhere.  I have a breathable bumper and she'll be fin.

Same here. He kept getting his arms stuck (and by stuck, I mean hanging out of the crib and he couldn't figure out how to get them back in) so we put a breathable bumper in.
