So I've been off dairy since LO was 3 months old. I love the weight loss (I'm down to my wedding weight and every single pair of pants I own is too big!) and don't miss it as much as I thought, but I would like to start back.
Most times I've tried obvious dairy, LO has had a fussy day the next day. Those times have also coincided with teething and sleep issues, so I can't narrow it down to just the food. However, a couple of months ago, I stopped being so strict about hidden dairy in a few products and he has been fine.
This past week at a catered event, I had a small dessert with cream and a cream sauce on a meal, and he was just fine the next day and through the weekend. So, maybe he's outgrown it?
So for formerly dairy-free mamas, how did you transition back to it?
Re: s/o dairy sensitivity
awesome about the weight loss!
when DD was 9.5 mo old, I had ice cream and she was fine! So I gave her some baby yogurt and she broke out in a rash; I tried a few cheeses a week apart with the same result. I started eating dairy but didn't give her any until she was 12.5 mo old (waited after her b-day party) and at that time, she did fine w/ the yogurts and the cheeses. At 13.5mo I very slowly introduced cow milk, mixed with BM, she was fine and I increased the ratio of cow to BM over the next couple of weeks and completed weaned at 14mo old, I also ran out of my stash by then.
I was very cautious about giving M dairy directly. I started by giving him things with "hidden dairy," like certain breads and crackers, around 10 months. Then I tried cheese crackers (goldfish). He was fine with those, so around 11 months I gave him regular cheese and yogurt. He seems fine with everything. He still hasn't had more than a sip or two of cow milk, because he refuses to drink it, but that's another story.
