s/o planting

Is this bulb planting time? When I look around my neighborhood in the spring I'm always so jealous of everyone's flowers popping up. I'm sick of having the ugliest yard on the block. I think I've heard you have to plant them before the 1st frost. Is that true? Anyone have tips or recommendations?

Re: s/o planting

  • I think so.   I am definitely NOT a gardener, but I picked up a back of tulip bulbs last week at Aldi's on sale and planted them.  It said Aug-Oct. on the package I think. I have no idea if they will bloom in the spring or not, but I figured it was worth a try.  The previous owners of our house did a nice job with landscaping and flowers so I figured if they show up great, if not, the house always looks nice anyways. haha

  • Yes, right now is the best time for tulips and daffodils. I've been wanting to plant some in the front yard every fall, but then the school year starts, and I'm lucky to dig out the summer plants and stick in a couple mums.

If they don't all come up the first year don't get discouraged. I planted some a few years ago and it took a year or two for them to come up. Also the bulbs multiply so you will have more the following year.
