Success after IF

Sign language moms

DS knows a few signs - some we've taught him but many he's learned at daycare. I've had him home sick and he's beyond pathetic. He's been obsessed with reading this one book over and over. While doing so, he's frequently rubbing his forearm. It really is like he's trying to convey something. I feel fairly confident that his arm isn't hurt. It's not the way he signs "more"... I've called daycare to ask if it might be a sign he's recently learned, but until I hear back... Any ideas?! (Sorry for formatting.(

Re: Sign language moms

  • hmmm, I don't know that one. Maybe it's similar to the sign for "baby"? (like you're cradling a baby and rocking it). Zoey often makes up signs and I have to figure out what she means. hope he feels better soon!

  • M made up her own sign for more...she uses her pointer finger and points to the palm of her other hand repeatedly - it could be his very own way of saying "more".  That's great he's using so many signs!!

A friend just told me that this is actually the way they teach more in the DCs around here. It's easier than trying to get your fingers to meet for the babies.

This is what I thought too. When I rub me forearm like you are describing it reminds me of the sign for baby. I really hope your little guy feels better soon!

That's how Lucas says "more" now - he used to do it with all fingers meeting (well, more like clapping) and then he spontaneously changed it.

  • DS hits his fists together for more :). Thanks, ladies, for your thoughts. I agree "baby" makes sense!! Daycare just called and said it sounds like "cracker"-?? I googled and don't see that at all! (And he knows and uses "eat"). But, since I'd love to get more food in him I might offer something... We'll see!

Yes, this is how they teach "more" at our DC.

  • DS does something very similar for cracker. Maybe that's it?
