Could you feel one before the other?

I have di/di twins, and at my last visit, the MFM said my boy was on my left and my girl was on the right.  He said they wouldn't change spots.  Anyway, I have felt movement for the past 5 days or so, but from the boy only (on my left).  I haven't felt the girl as far as I know.  I was told she was smaller, so maybe that's why.  I just wonder why I can't feel her, and if that's normal or if I should be worried.

Re: Could you feel one before the other?

  • I have mo/di girls, but I definitely felt one more than the other at first. Some days I barely felt one and tons of the other. It switched a lot.

  • I had baby A on my right and B on my left. I actually felt them both for the first time on the same day, but it was at 19w exactly. I would think feeling one first would make sense based on positioning of the babies and of the placenta, e.g. if one placenta is anterior it can take longer to feel movement from that baby.

  • I didn't know who was who for a while and even then I would still get them mixed up sometimes because they kept changing positions (I only knew this because I was getting u/s every other day).  I wouldn't even worry at 17 weeks because I didn't get distinctive movement until after 20 weeks.
  • Yes, I felt DS a few weeks earlier than DD.

  • I felt Noah constantly and well before I felt Elijah. I found out later that Elijah had an anterior placenta so that's why I didn't feel him as often.

  • My girls were mo/di.

When I first started to feel movement, I had no idea who it was- even though I knew where they were located.  As the weeks went on and I got more in tune with my pregnancy and with them, I felt B all.the.time and A only occasionally.  It hasn't changed since they've been outside babies!

  • Yes, I'm pretty sure I felt Baby A well before Baby B. Baby A has been quite low in my pelvis and for several weeks I would feel her very lightly (I wasn't even sure it was a baby and not gas for a while) and Baby B rarely or not at all. I think partly it was that Baby A has less room, being so low, so her movements were easier to feel (I think Baby B being higher up had lots of room and wasn't necessarily right up against the walls of my uterus)...and partly that Baby B has an anterior placenta, which was buffering his movements.

Also, you're still fairly early on and movement at this point is going to be a bit inconsistent. I didn't feel daily movement from both until 20 weeks +. Even now at 29 weeks it's not predictable or consistent.

    Congratulations and enjoy!

  • I definitely felt my boy first and still do more than the girl.  He is bigger and very active is pounding on my cervix.  She is chilling out on top of him.  It is still pretty early for you, I wouldn't worry about it.  GL!

This.  I don't feel baby A nearly as much as I feel B.  I think its b/c of where they are located - with A being further down in my pelvis.  I feel movement/pressure around my cervix which I attribute to A and the kicks I get near the top of my uterus are B.  I have my appt with the MFM on Monday, so I'll be confirming their positions then.

Mine are mono/di with a posterior placenta.

  • Both my A and B have anterior placentas (not shared) and their laying one on top of the other (A is facing my spine and B is facing his spine, if that helps you picture the arrangement). So I feel B a TON but every now and then I'm pretty sure A has hiccups. When they were breech I could feel tap dancing on my cervix and bladder, but now that they've switched it's all up in the top of my tummy / ribs. Since their legs are all massed together, essentially, I'm never 100% certain who's who. B also shifts left and right now and then so then I get even more confused. I have an ultra sound next week and I'm looking forward to seeing where they've gotten to!

  • I did feel one before the other.  I have boy/girl with the boy on the left side and the girl on the right.  He's pretty active and I feel him a lot more than her.  Although, when I go in for U/S, she's pretty active as well.  I just assume I don't feel her as much because she's a bit smaller.  But, she'll still give me a good whack every now and then to remind me she's still there Wink
