So I just found out that my baby is still breech, and they won't try a version because he has an arrythmia...so I guess I'm destined to be a C-section Mama myself. It will be scheduled for when I'm about 39 weeks. My question is whether the standard items listed to pack in your hospital bag is different if you have a C-section? Any suggestions on additional items (or unnecessary ones)? Thanks!

Re: Different items for hospital bag?
I too had a breech baby with a failed version. Consider yourself lucky that you cannot get the version. It was the most barbaric painful process I have ever been through.
You will want to bring lose fitting pj pants or yoga pants. My hospital gave me a belly support band and it helped a ton! You may want to ask if they will do that. if not I would get a belly bandit or a support brace from motherhood maternity. Pack some breast pads.. even if you dont breast feed you will leak and it gets annoying. I brought slippers and I was glad I did because they wanted you to always wear something.. they first put these god awful red slipper socks on me which gave me the worst cankles haha.. I know that sounds stupid but at that point anything to make you feel a little better about yourself is worth bringing.
I brought my boppy and I really didnt use it.. I also brought my blow dryer and flat iron.. HAHA yea right. You can barely get into a shower and the last thing you want to do is stand and do your hair. Standing is hard enough after a C. Also dont waste room on underwear. You will just want to wear the mesh underwear they give you.
Also ask for the nurse or have your H stay in the bathroom if you take a shower because I kept dropping things and I couldnt bend to pick them up. There was this tiny soap rack and i had to try and fit all my travel size shampoo and body wash on it.. didnt work too well.
Good luck!
If you wear contacts, take them out and wear your glasses, they won't let you wear your contacts during the CS.
High wasted undies. That sounds obvious but I didn't really think of a c-section going in. When I thought of PP undies I initially packed bikinis, thinking I just needed something to hold a big pad. They ended up sitting exactly at my incision so I made my mom pick me up a pack of granny panties.
Loose fitting pants to go home in (I wore my PJ pants)
Ibuprofen (They gave me some to take home but not all hospitals do)
Overall I'd say it's basically the same, but make sure to pack for a longer hospital stay. Don't forget extra socks and undies for you and your SO.
BFP 12/10/10 - DD1 8/16/11
BFP 10/29/13 - c/p 11/2/13
BFP 11/29/13 - DD2 7/18/14
BFP 3/20/18 - DS1 due 12/2/18
That's all they gave you? I got two weeks prescription for percacets AND Ibuprofen. I wouldn't bring my own meds to a surgery.
Yes, neya. We're given a few Ibuprofen and Acetaminophen to alternate between. I was in the hospital for five days, so they were all gone by the time I left.
I didn't mean you have to take a bottle of your own drugs to the hospital, but you should make sure you have something at home just in case. I didn't, and we had to stop at the drug store on the way home. I should have made sure I had something beforehand.
I lived in shelf-bra tanktops and sweatpants while I was in the hospital. Bring a few of each.
I too brought my Boppy and didn't use it. I DID use my king-sized pillows, though.
Slippers/socks
Washcloths and towels for yourself. You get to do a sponge-bath/spray shower type thing after surgery and the washcloths they have at the hospital are scratchy and gross. And the towels are tiny. At least, they were where I delivered.
Skip underwear. Use the mesh kind they give you at the hospital or go commando.

Our family is complete!
I could have worn my contacts during the surgery, but I wore my glasses
t-shirts
yoga pants
my own pillow
slippers
lotion
shower supplies (ie shampoo/ conditioner)
I brought my humidifier. The hospital was so dry which made me cough. Coughing hurt. So I had the humidifier running the whole time, plus a bucket of water in the other corner to keep moisture in the air.
My own pillow
nursing nightgown/tanks, I didn't wear pants, I was mostly in bed and it didn't matter.
a robe
slippers to walk the halls in (I wore my nursing gown and a robe)
toiletries (toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, conditioner, comb, etc)
hair ties and or headbands
a throw blanket from home (anything from home made me feel better)
as PP said high waisted undies
clothes to take LO home in, I kept her in hospital clothes until then.
Clothes to come home in (yoga pants, sweats, etc)
Chargers for phones, laptop, camera, etc
That is all I can think of, other than snacks.
