Pre-School and Daycare

Sick yet?

My DD didn't start school until Sept 12th, but I remembered some of you talking about getting sick earlier (because your kids started school earlier, like late August).

So I'm curious - when did your child(ren) start school, and have they gotten sick yet?  And have you/DH/SO gotten sick yet too?

My DD started 9/12 and she has been pretty congested.  She's definitely not miserable, and it's not allergies, but it stinks that she has that drippy nose and constant throat-clearing.  Of course our 23 month old who isn't in preschool yet (next year), has it too.  Oh and she sneezed on my face when I was yawning!  So I may be next!

Re: Sick yet?

  • DD has yet to get sick has been in preschool for about 2-3 weeks, but DH had it(the biggest baby EVER) and I had a small cold since to.

  • My girls first day was 9/6 and so far so good, they haven't come up sick yet. One is doing this dry coughing thing in the morning, but I am pretty sure it is allergy related. We have bad fall allergies here in FL. I have been back on my allergey nasal spray since we got home from vacation on Labor Day. If it continues I am going to try Childrens claritan and see if it clears.

I have even started taking them to the Kids Zone at the YMCA 3 days a week so I can workout and still they are holding strong with no illness. I am sure this will change by the end of the month, but will see.

  • DD1 started last Tuesday, had the sniffles by the end of the week, and has been up with coughing fits the past two nights. So far it hasn't touched DD2 yet.

DD1's BFF started full-day preschool last Monday and this weekend she and her twin 11-month-old brothers were all sick with colds. :(

  • Started 9/7 and had a cold by 9/17.  Not terrible, and hoping it stays that way.  DH shared a peach with her yesterday (dummy) so he's next.  Last time I was pregnant I had a super immune system.  Hoping the same remains true this time!

  • Yes. We got our first sniffle in week three, this is week five.

DH didn't get it at all. DD1 had a runny nose (always clear) and cough, mostly at night. I got a slight sore throat. Poor DD2 got the worst of it -- she had four days of 100+ temps, up to 103.7 at one point -- and yellow snot, with a bit of a rash for a day afterwards.

  • DD started 8/29 and got a fever-sore throat on 9/10. Now, it appears she has some sort of GI bug. Oh, the joy!

  • DS was really, really sick from his cold on Saturday.  He has asthma, and the cold triggered some serious asthma stuff.  Yay preschool germs.  I taught pre-k for 3 years and I was sick for the first 2.

  • He started school on 9/12.   He only goes 2x a week though so today was his 3rd day.   No signs of any illness....yet.   However, he doesn't get sick too often.   There has been times I've come home from school with a cold(I teach special ed preschool) and DS stays healthy.

  • Our son started preschool on August 29th and was sick by the 12th of September. He had a cold, it wasn't aweful, but it wasn't great. Our preschool tries so hard to contain virial infections ( ie colds) but I think getting sick is the nature of young children together... Good Luck!
  • My DD started full time preschool on August 8th. No sickness yet for her or for me and DH.

  • DD started school 8/17 and we've already dealt with the stomach flu. Both girls got it but DH and I escaped it.

  • Yep we all have it here, and I have a newborn so I am on high alert with washing hands...and nursing him to keep him healthy.  Gotta love this cold...it seems like you get better and then it hits harder the next day!
