Midwives at Evergreen vs. Midwives at Providence

So I've struggled with whats the best decision for where to have our baby, what OB, and once the first one fell through I am thinking the Midwife route may be better for me and make more sense for me personally.

Anyone know anything about the Midwives at Evergreen or the Midwives at Providence? and also: Anything about the hospitals - I am told certain hospitals are known for things like encouraging vaginal deliveries, or high c-section rate, encouraging breastfeeding, or so on...

    I saw the midwives at Evergreen and loved them!  I ended up having to have a C section due to DD's positioning, but one of them was with me for that which was awesome.  I really liked all of them (save 1, who was just OK) and loved my delivery experience at Evergreen.  The lactation emphasis and assistance was really important for me, and I knew that was stressed there.  I think any midwives are going to be advocates for vaginal deliveries- at least at Evg if you want a C you can't see the midwives at all, as far as I know- and if you want to go med free they will be very supportive of that.  I don't have any experience with Prov but I plan to have my next one (whenever that happens) at Evg again, and if I decide to try for a VBAC I will see the midwives again.  HTH! :)

    I saw the midwives at Prov for my daughter's birth and loved them! Wonderful care, great at answering questions, very supportive of going med-free. Also loved the nurses at Prov, if we were going to have more I'd go back for sure.

    I believe by stats the two are pretty comparable, I know Prov has level 3 nicu and I believe Evergreen does also.  Can you go do a tour of each, to see if you prefer one over the other?  I delivered both my boys at Prov, but with an OB.  I loved it, and never had nurses push things on me, or make me feel uncomfortable by my choices in waiting for my epi until it was really necesssary.  Is one closer to you? That I think would be a good deciding factor, not only for scheduling appts, but also the unknow of when baby is coming, i like being close.

    Thank you guys for the info so much!! :) So I did a meet & greet on the phone with the Providence Midwifery and the midwife I talked to, and schedule coordinator, were so sweet and helpful and the midwife answered all my questions and made me feel good about things. I have scheduled an appointment with them and am hoping this is it and it goes well! Because they are located much closer to us than Evergreen, my husband and I like the convenience factor - my appointments will be in the Mill Creek office - really close, and the hospital I think is a bit closer than Evergreen and sounds nice! I am excited to finally have made a decision! haha.

    A lot of us have delivered with the Center for Women's Health at Evergreen midwives.  Overall a great experience and we plan to go back there for #2, even though the new swedish issaquah is a lot closer.

    Our midwives and nurse at Evergreen were very supportive and helpful for a med-free birth.  Evergreen does do everything they can to support breastfeeding.

    Oh yeah, the front desk staff are great too. And I echo pp about going with what's closer--my first labor was 16 hours and then DD came so quickly I ended up having to call 911 and go to the hospital via ambulance, I never would have made it to Evergreen!

    I have delivered at both Evergreen and Providence (but both times with an OB) and I would go back to Providence in a heartbeat.

    - Sounds silly, but the pregnancy punch is waaay better then a water bottle.

    - I had a better experience with the nurses at Prov. But, that can go one way or another, anywhere you go.

    - I greatly prefer the LC's at Prov. It seemed for all my friends who delivered at Evergreen, and where having breastfeeding troubles, the standard answer/solution was to slap a nipple shield on them.

    - Valet parking at Prov

    Cons - the rooms are smaller then evergreen. just makes it a tighter fit when you get a bunch of visitors.

    - the bed for your partner is smaller and not as comfortable as the one at Evergreen

    - Evergreen has a fridge in the room - Prov, you have a shared kitchen down the hall.

    I don't know about Evergreen, but I loved our experience with Providence Midwives...Sky, Molly, Gretchen, Jamie...all so wonderful! Molly delivered my second baby and I did natural w/o monitors etc.. My first was the sno-ball effect due to my cholestasis, but I was able to deliver vaginally by a midwife. Because of my concerns, they talked me through my options and helped us with our decisions without looking down on us or being pushy. I'll forever be grateful for that. Either way, it's still a hospital setting so there are one or two rules they go by that maybe a free-standing birth center wouldn't. You'll want to make sure to ask because I can't remember them off teh top of me head.
