Sex

Is the "waiting for sex" thing different with a c/s than it is with vaginal?

I remember my OBGYN telling me 6 weeks on a vaginal delivery, but I cannot recall what she said on a c/s and received no real post op instructions at discharge...which surprised me.

  • still 6 weeks.  I didn't wait though.  Yes your uterus still needs to heal.  My cervix never opened a smidge so i felt fine a few weeks out and did it with no problems.

  • At my 2 week pp after DD, my OB cleared us for sex starting at 4 weeks pp. I gave him a serious side eye for that one and DH still did not get any until about 7 weeks pp.

  • You should still wait the 6 weeks. It has nothing to do with how the baby came out. Your uterus took a huge beating either way. There's a risk for infection, which is why they tell you to wait. It really isn't that long, especially considering all the lack of sleep.

  • The 6wk pp waiting period is pretty much the rule regardless.  That said, despite knowing the risks, DH and I DTD a couple times between the 4-6wk pp time frame. Embarrassed  Couldn't help ourselves.....Stick out tongue

  • I was cleared at 5 weeks.  It hurt for a few weeks.
  • I was told 6 weeks.

ETA: And it hurt, which surprised me. And we used lots of lube and were really patient. Actually it hurt until 8 months PP. It's only recently started being really enjoyable again.  My OB told me that was normal, especially since I am BFing. I wish I had known that ahead of time...seriously thought I was broken. LOL!

  • 6wks is the norm for both types of delivery. Your placenta leaves a huge hole and even though you may stop bleeding, you can still get an infection.

  • We waited a month, we were supposed to wait 6 weeks but just could not keep our hands off of each other that long lol. And I must say, sex now feels even better than before I got pregnant. One of the only positive things about having ended up with a section Stick out tongue
