Hot Baths

I was told "no" to hot baths.  But I'm so congested and achy and awful feeling.  Not to mention stressed to the max.

I think a hot bath would be just what I needed.

From reading the APA website, it says it's OK if my body temp doesn't rise above 102.  So, can I keep a thermometer by the tub and just keep checking?  Does that sound legit?

Re: Hot Baths

  • I think you're ok as long as your core temp doesn't go up.  But, I think a steamy hot shower will help you much more. To me, no hot baths means no super hot baths.  But not that they need to be luke warm to be safe.

  • Maybe  you could set a fan up next to the tub to blow on your face. lol

Sip on some iced tea.  Maybe a cold beer!  LOL!

I'm seriously dying for a bath.  I need steam in my face and heat on my achin old bones.

  • my doctor told me as long as my temp doesn't go above 102. i usually just keep a glass of ice water to drink and a thermometer next to the tub, and of course if you start feeling overheated then get out of the tub. but it should be fine. i take baths once or twice a week if i can squeeze them in, they help with my aches and they really help with stress. i hope you feel better soon!

  • I took hot baths, it gets cold after 2 seconds, anyway. I was told as long as it isn't so hot your skin turns red. I even went in my IL's hot tub because they had it turned down to 95 and the RN said it was okay under 100.

  • As long as it's not so hot it turns your skin red or so hot you have to ease into, it should be fine.

  • The article from the APA website says it takes "just" 10-20 minutes to raise your body temp.  I can't stay in that long because I get too hot and sweaty.

I think I'm convinced that it's OK for me to take a bath tonight.

  • Ive read and my dr confirmed that baths are just fine if you keep your water under 100 degrees. They are great stress relievers!
  • Its funny to me that the same sources that say don't take a bath also say your body protects baby and keeps him at a steady comfy temp - seems like it would take a lot to increase your core temp that much! I'm all for the hot baths and showers - being pregnant is the last thing that's going to stop me since its relaxing and comfortable. I have a lot of faith in the human race and my body - my body will tell me if something is wrong - I have faith in that! :) So go for it sister - bathe away!
  • I literally take a bath everyday. I can't help it, its like my guilty pleasure!

  • I took baths all through out my last pregnancy (well, the beginning, I was pregnant through most of the summer and I spent THAT time int he kiddie pool outside! LOL) and I'll be taking baths this time too! If I ever feel too hot I get out and I keep a cold drink with me to keep me cool enough.
