Bleeding through the bcp's... TMI warning

So as many of you know and can see in my siggy I am waiting for surgery for a uterine polyp. I am currently on bcp's to prevent pregnancy (not that I can get pregnant or ovulate on my own to save my life but whatever) until they remove the uterine polyp they found in August. So I have been on bcp's since then. I have been bleeding right through the pills and last night and today have been plagued by huge clots every half and hour to an hour. I have dealt with the non stop bleeding before but never while on bcp's, and i have also dealt with large clotting before but never THIS much. I mean I don't think I slept more than an hour total last night from getting up all the time to go and drop the clot. These clots are easily bigger than an inch and I can actually feel them pass which is why I had to keep getting up- because it would wake me up. I thought about calling the RE and letting them know but I doubt they are going to do anything about it because they think the polyp is what is causing my non stop bleeds and clots. I am just frustrated and I feel completely isolated because I still have another month of waiting before surgery. Anyone who has been through this and has some advice- please feel free to chime in. Thanks for listening.

  • That is awful. I would absolutely call the RE's office. Hemorrhaging is very dangerous. Why do you have to wait so long for the surgery?

  • Angela~ Thanks for the hug.

Mrs. McIrish~ When they found the polyp they scheduled the surgery for the end of August which was fine by me, then the day before the surgery they called and cancelled saying the anestesiologist wanted it done in the hospital instead of the office like it was planned (I assume because I am overweight-but that is just an assumption). Then they said that they would call me back to let me know when surgery would be, they finally call me back two weeks later and tell me I am going to have surgery on October 24th due to "availablility of the surgery room and tools". Before they found the polyp I had been bleeding every single day for a year and a half- STRAIGHT. They only thing that worries me about this is that I have never had so many issues with clots coming so often. I always have large clots and I always have quite a few of them but every half and hour to an hour? That's crazy... plus it worries me that I am clotting like this while on bcp's... I don't know maybe I am just being paranoid... it's frustrating.

I'm sure it is beyond frustrating! That sounds miserable. I would still call if the bleeding is much worse than what you've been experiencing all this time. Soaking through pads etc that fast cannot be acceptable for you to just live with until October. Hang in there.

  • I would definitely call your RE. I have had polyps (tons) and bled through bcp. I am guessing the clots may be from you trying to stop the bleeding from the bcp. I can't believe you have to wait so long for surgery. Maybe if you call with this big concern they will " find an opening" for you to get in. Gl!!
  • Kpirelli~ I am so glad to hear from someone else who has had polyps! I was starting to feel like a lone ranger... so when you had your polyps it DID make you bleed through the bc? My RE seems to think that once the polyp is removed it's going to be smooth sailing to babyland... I am not so sure. She also seems to think that the polyp is causing all the excess bleeding and clotting and making the clots so big (they easily dwarf quarters). As you can see from previous posts you are not the first to recommend that I call the RE... and maybe I should but I think I might scream if they tell me that its just the polyp and there is nothing they can do until my surgery date...

  • I think you need to call your doctor... this is not right.  You definitely can't live with this until October.

  • Sarah~ I feel the same way but EVERYONE including my regular doctor, my ob/gyn, and my RE have taken such a relaxed approach to the fact that I bleed like this its crazy. I am afraid to even bring it up to them because if I get ignore again about it I might lose my mind. I bled for a year and a hald straight every single day with clots that easily dwarfed quarters and all they did was put me on prometrium and do a sonohysterogram (which found the polyp) and then ignored the bleeding since... I have thought about changing RE's but I don't want to push things back even further. I guess I am just frustrated especially since I am working as a photography assistant tomorrow and it just makes me wonder how I am going to manage when every half and hour to an hour I have to go to the bathroom and release a big clot?! Anyways, thanks for listening to me vent...

  • Wow. That sounds awful. I'd call the RE just for peace of mind. Let them know you've never had clots like this before and you are worried. Heck, maybe it will help them move your surgery sooner.

    Good luck.
