1st Trimester

Bright red blood...Possible MC??

So I just tested yesterday and got my BFP.  I suspect that my O date was 8/27 so I would be about 3w or so.  This morning I had some very minor cramping and noticed some slightly brownish discharge (TMI but I by habit of going up just to check since it doesn't always come out on my underwear).  I just checked again a few minutes ago though and it's much more of a bright red.

Does spotting happen in the beginning or is this the beginning of a MC?  I have an appointment with a new OB/GYN on Tuesday so I will know by then but I was hoping for some opinions/suggestions/advice from you all who are/have gone through this early stage before.  Thanks a bunch in advance!

  • BTW it's not a ton of blood but just noticably bright red which is what is scaring me.

  • Unfortunately, it could go either way. I would call my doctor b/c it makes me feel better to talk to them, even though there isn't much they can do at this point other than start monitoring your hcg. Good luck!
  • I had one episode of bright red blood when I was about 4 weeks....it was very scary, but it never happened again and baby is still doing well today, 9 weeks later. Good luck :-)

This.  It COULD be nothing to worry about, but it's good to talk to your doctor just in case.

This. I hate to be a Debbie Downer, but when I had my m/c it started with old brown blood and then turned red. There is nothing you can do, but rest and pray/hope for the best.

On the other hand, there are PLENTY of ladies on here who have spotting with no m/c and have perfectly healthy babies. I would go to your doctor, ask them to check your HcG levels and make sure they're going up like they should be. GL and keep us updated!!

  • Ugh! I'm so freaked because I'm going to a brand new doctor in a new town (we are moving an hour away from where I live) and I don't know him/the practice at all.  I think I'm probably going to wait one more day and if there is more I can call early in the morning and see if they can fit me in.  It's not like the doctors will be able to do anything right?

  • My implantation bleeding was bright red and there was a bit more than spotting, but not quite flow.  I saw it every time I wiped for 2 days and it almost was like a light period.  It turned out to not be a m/c, which I thought it was at the time.  It happened the day after I got my BFP.

It could really go either way, but when I was going through this 2 weeks ago, optimism helped me get through it.  I'll be praying that your baby is OK!
