Nap Timing

DD is 22 months old and goes to a Parents Morning Out class every morning. I pick her up at 12:30 and usually come straight home for nap time. In the past, she has been perfectly fine going to bed between 12:30 and 1pm. No fights or arguments about it at all. (Knock on wood) Anyway, the past few days, she has been sitting up playing or getting out of bed. I'll let her do this for a bit and she usually will finally settle down and go to sleep. Today was the worst though. She got out of bed, turned her sound machine off and took her sleep sack off. She then stood at the door until I came in and put her back in bed. I think it is too early for her to be dropping her nap but is it possible she needs to nap later in the day? I don't want to disrupt bed time which is between 8-8:30. Anyone else's kid go through this stage? For what it's worth, she has been going to bed closer to 9 or 9:30 lately because of uncontrollable circumstances.

Re: Nap Timing

  • I wouldn't change the time of the nap after only a few weird days.  I think that's a very reasonable time, and yes, I think it's reasonable to expect her to not drop that nap yet - even if she doesn't sleep but stays in bed and rests.  My 2.5 yr old and 4.5 yr old still "nap" - they don't always sleep, but they stay in there at least an hour.  Some days they really fight that nap and don't fall asleep until 2:00 or 2:30.

  • Agree with pp - the later bedtime for a few wonky days may have affected napping. Hope you're back on track soon.
